Colt 1903 Hammerless made in 1941.  Don't know any of its war history (if it has any) It does have a British proof mark on the frame, but my dad's dad carried it for a LONG time. I've only seen it once or twice before he passed away. Surprised me with it. Cannot wait to give it a good field strip and go shoot it.

British proof marks are Broadhead over crown over H2 over M(looks like M)

With the British proofs may be worth it to get a letter from colt regarding shipping. The British purchasing commission in 1940-41 pretty much scooped up everything not nailed down when they thought the Germans would invade, even single action armies. After the threat passed many either made the way back to the us with service members, surplused out after 1952 or sadly may destroyed or dumped in the sea

That is the plan, I can get a history from colt for like 75 bucks. Expensive but way worth it.

Beautiful gun, like I posted before, thanks for bringing it over to a tech forum so it doesn't get ruined again.  I've always been fascinated by these older guns, and specifically how (in general) people that did carry early autopistols like this were invariably in what we would consider "mousegun" calibers today, .25 ACP, .32, etc.  Although we see it a lot in the movies, I just don't get the impression that in real life that many folks toted around a 1911 or something in 9mm.  Granted, revolvers were the go-to guns of the day.

Do those pistols have a internal hammer or a striker?

Very nice.  Is it 380 or 32?

Even with their age they make great CCW guns.   Thin and light.

.32's are fun to shoot.  Fo sho.   They look like miniature .45's.

Have a velvet-lined case made for it; it is a beauty and a heirloom worth passing to your kid when he grows up.

Good deal. I still remember the day I received my grandfathers old deer rifle.

I saved Bret Maverick with one when I shot the BG as I watched on TV.  I used my GrandPa's gun.  The bullet didn't penetrate the strong plastic screen on the front of the Sylvania black and white TV.  My mom had it replaced before my Dad got home from a 2 week work project.  Whew.

If I recall right, 1903s were in 32.
1908s were in .380.

I've never seen an 03 in .380, so I think the above is correct, though could be wrong...
