I picked-up this pretty nice S&W 559 w/extra mag today in a trade.  I have about $275.00 in it.

Not all that many were produced (10K or so). It seems very well made. All steel. 14+ 1 capacity.

Swap the mag followers out to the new orange ones and your mags will hold 15.

Just protective "ears" around a pretty standard adjustable rear sight.

Not as "tankish" as a Ruger but it pretty stoutly built.

I don't know if it was this exact particular model or not but one similar was rejected by the US Navy (no idea why) after they asked S&W to design them a pistol for the Seals. Perhaps that accounts for the protective ears and retention of a lanyard ring.

They only made this model form 1980-1983.

Even with it's low production numbers it's not particularly collectable from what I understand, just a very solid shooter.

If you run out of rounds you can bludgeon your enemy to death

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

One time I held a 39 that was for sale and didn't have the money at the time.  Plus they acted like it was gold, I forget how much but it was not cheap.  But man do I want one.  Well, I should say, I want one if I think you can get mags and spare parts easily, which might not be the case.

Thanks, I'm going to look for a set of wood stocks for it at my LGS. They have a whole ammo crate of S&W  stocks. I know there is a new set of rubber grips for it there but I'd prefer S&W wood.

BTW, I finally got it down to my range yesterday and it shot very well.

If it's anything like S&W semi-autos of this era, it will reliably feed empty cases. Good way to practice for failures without having to chase down your snap caps.

However, my 3rd Gens are the only semi-auto I've ever owned or fired, that includes Glock and HK, that have never had any malf of any kind.

....Damn, you are right, it will feed empty cases!

I only had seven but I'll be damned if it did not feed every single one.

Nice pick up!

Those older S&W autos can be addicting.

Well no love on wood stocks at the LGS but I did find a 20 round mag for $10.00.

Saw a 30 rounder for it today at the funshow. I'd forgotten all about those.

I think those (20/30 rounders) also fit the 9mm Marlin Camp Carbine. This one was S&W marked so I guess they were for their pistol line.

I bought a 659 new back in the 80's.  Still hate I sold it off.  Those are solid pistols.

No kidding, the first time I engaged the safety on my 39-2 with a loaded chamber, when the hammer fell
I about had a heart attack!

OP, You got a deal on that 559.

The all steel second gen guns aren't very common.  Great price.
