Currently , all of my handguns are Glocks , including my EDC (gen 3 G19).   I'm not looking to replace my EDC , or nightstand gun (Gen 3 G17).  I just want a new range gun.  I understand that "It's the Indian, not the arrow"  , but I also appreciate potential accuracy  and shoot-ability of  a handgun. I have shot the 92 plenty and shoot well with it.  I like the heft, and the smoothness of it.  I don't like that I cannot replace the factory front sight as it is one-piece with the slide. I have fired the CZ a couple times (long ago).  I remember that it had a very long D/A pull but I do remember shooting it well in S/A.  I remember being impressed with how well I shot with it. I also like that I can carry it cocked -and locked f I ever did choose to ; am I right on this about the CZ ? I know there are a bunch of different models.

I am considering these 2 guns and would like some input on them from other shooters.  If there is another type of gun or model I should look at before deciding please let me know. This gun's role wouldn't be "duty" but I obviously plan on getting something reliable and could fill in if I needed it to.  I'm kind of leaning towards a metal frame , hammer fired old school type 9mm . I have the polymer frame - striker fired segment covered with my Glocks.  I do need it to be 9mm , that's what I'm stocked up on and invested in with reloading supplies/equipment.

I'd get the 75b. I have one with CGW sights, and it shoots amazingly well.

The Beretta 92A1 has a replaceable front sight, but its around $100 more than the CZ and, imo, doesn't shoot near as well.

I have an old 75. It has Bomar sights, checkered wood grips and a trigger job. It and the 1911 fit my hand the best. The 92 feels almost as bad as a Glock to me, but you like your Glocks, so you may prefer the 92.

I like the 75B and don't care all that much for the 92.

My shooting buddy likes the 92 and doesn't care for the 75B.

Find a range and rent them both if you can.

As previously states the newer 92 has a replaceable front sight, so if you go that route keep that in mind.

CZs are built like tanks, all steel construction make for a heavy gun that helps mitigate recoil, and since you don't plan on carrying it, the extra weight won't be pulling your pants down.

I really like my CZ, but my favorite hammer fired 9mm is my SIG p226 mk25. Granted they are not even in the same ball park price wise, and you didn't mention that at all as an option, but I bring it up anyway. I still like my CZ 75b a lot and don't think I'll be getting rid of it anytime soon.

Just to complicate matters, I would like to have a Beretta too just because.

The thing is, you basically you just said this is going to be a range toy either way you go, so just get the one that appeals to you most. You'll probably end up getting the other one down the road anyway.

I went through the same thing a few years ago. I wanted a full size 9mm as a range pistol, narrowed it down to a cz or a beretta. Ended up with both but prefer the beretta by a slight margin.

I've owned all three.  Now I own only the Glock 19.
why can't your 19 or 17 be your range gun also.

Tough to say.

CZ obviously gives you a lot more options for action configurations,  materials, finishes, sights, controls, and sizes.  But the Beretta is just a slick and enjoyable gun to shoot.

We have a CZ-75 now, but will be looking at Berettas next.

This may be a "get both" situation, but if you have to start with one or the other, I'd advise the CZ first.

EDIT:  Maynard has a good suggestion with the P01.

Maynard is spot on.   He sold me my first CZ.  I love it almost as much as my SIGs

P01 to be exact.  06 is the same firearm in 40.

You could look at Beretta's M9, has removable sights and slightly different contour than the 92.

I'd rather have the CZ but it's personal preference.

75.  Not even close.  Unless you have huge clown hands, the 92 is a pig.

Look hard at the stainless,  they are nice.  85's are 75's made ambidextrous.   Unless you are left handed, the 85 is just more cost and more parts to break.

Stainless 75 and you will keep it for life.

I want a 75b and Sp01 bad. After messing with and firing a beretta 92 I'll never buy one. YMMV

My choice would be the CZ85. It's an updated version of the CZ75, but it's still an old school 9mm. The Beretta 92 is a great pistol, but it's a fat pig next to the CZ.

I own both the CZ-75 and the Beretta 92, I would get a CZ SP-01 for a new BBQ gun, but a S&W 5906, 659, 59 etc would also be a great choice and lower cost.

Both the guns you've mentioned will be great. I'm partial to the 92fs. I would only ever use the Beretta as a fun range gun however. I tend to rack the slide and mess with the safety when under pressure on a fast reload. If you haven't shot a sig I would find a way to shoot one asap before you decide. It's a perfect example of old school all metal da/sa.

I faced this exact dilemma and made my decision a couple of days ago. I found a CZ 75B SA online at Buds Gun Shop and snagged it up. The M9 / 92FS will come eventually, but there's just something about the CZs.

I own multiple CZs and multiple Berettas. As long as you stick with 9mm, you can't make a bad selection.

My Beretta 92s were police trade-ins. Similarly used and discounted CZs are harder to find, but they're out there.

If you're going to buy new, I'd suggest looking at CZ's SP-01 and Beretta's 92A1. The rail is more of a weight benefit than anything else, but those models tend to have better sight configurations and some kind of frame checkering/serrations that the base guns don't.

Which one would I suggest for one over the other? That depends on how much you want to invest in the gun after you buy it.

If you want to stay stock or mostly stock, I'd suggest the Beretta. The trigger is better out of the box, and a $7 DAO-spec spring makes a big difference. If you get a little froggy, you can spend $35 for the light hammer for faster lock time. That's as far as you'd probably ever want to take it unless you want to play with cosmetic stuff like grips.

If you don't mind an added investment, I'd suggest the CZ. The CZ is more than serviceable out of the box, but there's a bit of dragging grit between the sear and the hammer if you're going for a slow SA pull, and I hate that. The good news is that there's CZ Custom and Cajun Gun Works, and they've got some awesome solutions for that problem and more. A worked over CZ with an aftermarket FCG is a monster, and other than spendy 1911s, no other handgun I've ever played with comes close. Unless you buy a gun directly from them, expect maybe $300-400 depending on the options you choose. And yes, I'll take a customized CZ over a stock Sig every single time.

You might want to look at the CZ 85 Combat. The Combat model does not have a firing pin block safety and gives you a much nicer trigger pull.

I think my hands are about average and I think an M9 fits really well.  I'm not real tall, but I've seen guys bigger than me with smaller hands.  Or at least shorter fingers.   Anyways...  I could see how some peoples hands would have a hard time wrapping around it and reaching the trigger when decocked.

I prefer the Beretta but still plan on getting a cz in some flavor one day. Great thing about the Beretta is cheap mags compared to most guns since there is an excess, or at least last time I looked, of military and police trade in mags.
