I own multiple CZs and multiple Berettas. As long as you stick with 9mm, you can't make a bad selection.
My Beretta 92s were police trade-ins. Similarly used and discounted CZs are harder to find, but they're out there.
If you're going to buy new, I'd suggest looking at CZ's SP-01 and Beretta's 92A1. The rail is more of a weight benefit than anything else, but those models tend to have better sight configurations and some kind of frame checkering/serrations that the base guns don't.
Which one would I suggest for one over the other? That depends on how much you want to invest in the gun after you buy it.
If you want to stay stock or mostly stock, I'd suggest the Beretta. The trigger is better out of the box, and a $7 DAO-spec spring makes a big difference. If you get a little froggy, you can spend $35 for the light hammer for faster lock time. That's as far as you'd probably ever want to take it unless you want to play with cosmetic stuff like grips.
If you don't mind an added investment, I'd suggest the CZ. The CZ is more than serviceable out of the box, but there's a bit of dragging grit between the sear and the hammer if you're going for a slow SA pull, and I hate that. The good news is that there's CZ Custom and Cajun Gun Works, and they've got some awesome solutions for that problem and more. A worked over CZ with an aftermarket FCG is a monster, and other than spendy 1911s, no other handgun I've ever played with comes close. Unless you buy a gun directly from them, expect maybe $300-400 depending on the options you choose. And yes, I'll take a customized CZ over a stock Sig every single time.
