All,

I am looking at getting a handgun grip stippled. But was curious what would it look like when refinished with something like duracoat or ccr cera-hide?

What do you guys think? Also if you've had it done could you post pictures?

This is one I did and refinished with Norrell's moly resin.

I recently did this Kimber and left it unfinished.

Awesome, thanks.  Looks like I know what direction I'm going.

What kinda of punch did you use on the 1911 and the Hi Power?

Just a couple of old nail sets or something that I'd ground points on.   The Kimber's punch looked a bit like the point of a nail, the other one was a little more like a very dull pencil lead.

Which grip do you prefer better?

I prefer the more aggressive texture, but they are both very comfortable in the hand and effective.  The 9mm takes less holding onto, so the shallower pattern works well for that.

Keep in mind that the more aggressive the pattern is, any coating will wear faster off the higher points.

If you can afford it send it to Robar.  They have done a couple for me and the results are perfect even after 10 years.  I just finished an AR in Duracoat, Parker gray.  I really do like it and if I can do it anyone can.  I used the can in a can and it worked great.  Mine didn't fully cure for 4 weeks even with heat but it was worth the wait.  The Duracoat is a little glossy but it looks right on a pistol and the gloss fades some after a few weeks. Be sure to use real breathing protection not the little painters mask.  Use light coats with time in between for it to get tacky.

I've done 3 steel frame 1911's now. These are the first two and I do not have pictures of the third but it was better. I used a center punch on it and it was a lot more aggressive.

I love that high power. Great looking pistol.

Specs on it? Looks like there is a barrel bushing?

Thanks, it's a FEG HP clone.  Aside from the Novaks, straightened trigger and a little dehorning / stippling / beveling etc., it's stock.   Navidrex micarta grips.

The "bushing" is just part of the slide, from all appearances.

Sure, a punch, hammer, and a lot of patience.
