I'm looking for a new .40 S&W handgun that's interesting and not one of the most common guns out there, which means no Glocks, M&Ps, or XDs. Any ideas?

Does it have to be NEW, or just new to you?

Get a PX4 Storm, allegedly the rotating barrel does a better than average job taming the .40's often more potent recoil impulse, beretta makes quality guns and it isn't expensive, yet you don't see it everyday. The Inox stainless version is pretty slick looking without being gaudy. I want one personally if I were to take the foray into .40, another option that will be more expensive but give you more options is looking at the Sig P226 and P229 variants, there are many different types and whatnot so you could find one you find less "common" such as the Scorpion or Elite Dark models that will suit your fancy.

CZ 3rd gen S&W 3rd gen S&W tsw View Quote Just new to me would be fine, the 3rd gen Smiths do look promising, as does a HK p30 or USP (not exactly uncommon, but not everyone has one) as for CZ the one I really want is the original combloc style 9mm, even though the SP01 looks promising. |

If I was in the market for a .40 the Px4 full size Inox would be the in serious consideration. I personally do not shoot .40 as well as I do 9mm, but when I was in the market for my 9mm I checked out the Px4's and they were really good pistols for the money, and I actually did notice a decent difference in recoil as opposed to say a Glock 19 (which I ended up purchasing) the 9mm is easy to shoot but for .40's I totally see the point. I also say a video of a guy doing mag dumps with his and it seemed to increase speed via less muzzle rise/recoil but that totally could have been in my head. Im not a huge fan of slide mounted safeties/decockers but tons of people have used and relied on them and have made them work. I like the sig decocker system best but the berettas are pretty good bargains and all around a decent package. Let us know which direction you go! ...Or buy a Glock 22/23, get the slide milled for a RMR, get it nickel boron coated, replace the connectors with Ghost/whatever your flavor of choice is, replace barrel with lone wolf or storm lake, reform/stipple the grip and add custom slide plates, magwell plugs and BAM! SUPER CUSTOM Either way let us know what you end up doing. |

I vote Glock..........because it = perfection View Quote Glocks out for me, they're great guns but EVERYONE has one and they don't interest me that much. That said I am gonna get a 34 and get it fitted as a competition gun but that will be the ONLY Glock that ill consider at this point. |

I mainly want a gun which I can shoot a lot, generally shoots pretty well, and is not something that you see a lot at the range. Not really looking for a commemorative gun. |

Pre owned USP 40s can be had for a pretty reasonable price and they were designed around the 40. That's what I'd get

Probably the best option for .40 S&W as USP was been initially created (and over-engineered accordingly) especially and intentionaly for this high-pressured round. Even brand new they are not that expensive at the moment as some of LEO customers in USA recently are switching to 9 mm Para and .45ACP. |

Sorry, accidentally double post. Don't know how to delete the entire post.

I carry a Browning Hi-Power in .40 S&W. Love it. God luck finding one.

Original SIG P226 X-5 or one of the newly redesigned X-Fives; you won't see them everywhere and they are superb.

FNH FNS40 or FNX40. If you like striker fired get the FNS40, or SA/DA get the FNX40. They both come with 3 magazines, night sights can be had for both models. The FNS comes with or without a safety, like Burger King have it your way. I have had both models and they are both great weapons. Check them out.

SIG Sauer P229 .40 s&w or like others stated the H&K USP40
Both high quality to hell and back. |

Quoted: Here's my newest .40, with 10/8 sights installed. Mags have been easy to find and decently priced. Very nice shooting .40. My next .40 is going to take a little more thought and research. I want an all metal .40 with no slide mounted controls, no DA / SA and not in a1911. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z207/2814V/3AC9726C-C5C7-4E5B-8707-5DDF59BDCD04_zps0z1klv1c.jpg View Quote |

Sounds to me like you're more interested in making a fashion statement than shooting. |

CDNN may still have some unissued S&W 4046's. That's the DAO version of the 4006.

Glock 23 is the ultimate handgun IMHO....
Put a Vickers slide stop and Ameriglo sights on it and carry it in Raven kydex. HST or Gold Dots. Perfection |

How about a Smith and Wesson 646? http://i1083.photobucket.com/albums/j393/BeatnikFink/2013-04-09180749_zpsc59aa054.jpg They only made 300 so you can't get much more out of the norm than that! View Quote I shot one of those in a USPSA match once. They have titanium cylinders. The owner had attempted to chamfer the chambers but had a tough time with it. |
