THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
I've decided to purchase a mid-size 9mm as a, just in case the Communist Kenyan gets elected gun. These are the two I've decided on for a low-budget 9mm. I'm comfortable with DAO, I've held and dry fired a P250 and a SD9 but I can't make up my mind. Neither would likely be a carry piece. I like Smiths but I really like the idea of a modular pistol. Obviously the SD is less expensive but the x-change kits would make up that difference if I bought a sub compact 9mm. Decisions one must make...

I absolutely hate the P250. We had a Sig rep at a class we were hosting at out local club. I don't shoot Sigs, but I'll keep my mind open to them. I checked out the P250 and asked the rep if he was going to turn me into a Sig shooter. His reply was "Nope, not with that."

I tried it. He was right.

Given the choice between the two you mentioned, I'd take the S&W any day. Hell, I'd honestly take a Sigma over a P250.

Looks like the 250 is running around $380 and the SD9 is around $300?

I have never handled an SD9. I did have a SW9VE for about 6 years. Trigger sucked a bit, but it was 100% reliable and I could hit with it.

I have personally known exactly two people who owned a Sig 250. One was just a standard 250 and the other was one of the 2SUM kits. "It's got double strike capability!" Good, because both had serious light strike issues. They may have ironed that out. Even though I don't care for the XD, you can get the XD essentials package or M&Ps on sale for around the price of the 250 I think.

The Sigma / SD has its warts, but it's still a hell of a lot more attractive than a P250. Apart from anything else, they are pretty reliable and have a trigger that you can actually run pretty quickly.

I would get the SD9. The SD series is not a sigma, the trigger is better and it has a standard rail on the dustcover. I have handled P250s and they feel good in the hand, just too many problems being reported by law enforment agencies to interest me. If sig can get the bugs worked it should a good gun.

I have an SD9, I have over 1400 rounds through it, no malfunctions of any kind. I did have a a pin drift out of the frame within the first 50 rounds but smith fixed it, no problems since.

First, don't even mention Glock. I dumped my last one 9 months ago.

I often carry a LCP or snub .38 so I am comfortable with the long DAO pull. Yes, the smith is cheaper. I handled the sig in a gun shop including dry fire and didnt find it objectionable at all. Does anyone hear own one? I've read lots of posts online to the effect of "my friend has a P250 and it sucks" but little "I own one...."

For reference I have 2xM&Ps, a full size Kimber, and 3913LS in addition to the above. I'm basically looking for a mid size 9mm budget price to shoot at the range, probably not a carry piece unless I get the P250 and get the subcompact kit down the line.

I have several friends who are Air Marshals. They are issued P229's, but for some unknown reason, the decision was made to adopt the P250. Two of them were involved in the evaluation process and they experienced many FTF's. Lucky for them, the poor performance of the P250 outweighed whatever politics were in play.

I can't say I own one, and I've only fired two. The one at the Sig class I mentioned earlier and my friend bought one. He sent his back to Sig twice for light primer strikes. He traded it for a real Sig when he got it back the second time.

I agree that the P250 is a good concept, but the execution must have been rushed. It was probably a similar situation that the S&W engineers were put into by upper management there when the Sigma was in the late design stages. Upper management was so eager to put it out in the marketplace that they did not allow the engineers the time they needed to properly test and fine tune the pistol.

And, just like the Sigma, which has been redesigned and drastically improved compared to the Gen 1 and 2 models, the stink of the problems the early models had sticks even to the redesigned and improved models.

Not sure of the model, but sig does make a fullsize polymer framed pistol with a great reputation. I have shot a couple and they shot like sigs are supposed to.

Those Sig 250's where never intended to be budget priced pistols. They sell for that low price cause no one is buying them at the intended price point. They where shopped to LE agencies against glocks, Hks, xd's and s&ws. Noone bought, the few agencies who release thier test data showed poor performance.

Sig is just trying to dump those guns intended for LE contracts on the public. Ive got no Sig hate, have a few and love them. A 229 in 357sig is my nightstand/bedside gun. Those 250's are just too unreliable to carry the sig logo. Acctually do hate glocks, but its just a grip angle trigger thing. At least they work if you can get past the retarded luger style grip angle and not limp wrist the subcompacts.

Since you said no Glocks, I vote Sig 2022

The P250 sucks, and the SD9 is not much better

If I were looking for the least expensive pistol that would also be durable and reliable, that would be my first pick.

I've seen the 2022 but I know my limits. I just can't get enough range time to master DA/SA to be comfortable.

Well then, a P95 in DAO would serve you well, or yea one of the smith SD9s. People love to talk shit about them having never shot one. Buy with confidence.

I looked at the 250 when it came out , didnt like it at all , read lots of things about it , went a gun show locally and snagged a new SD40 , got a 1000 rounds through her , was throwing high and to the left at first no failures of any kind , (they come with adjustable sights , ) so that cured the "off target" problem , this is my bedside companion , If I were gonna go (9) and Ive been thinking about it , I would either opt for the Berretta , or Sig , Im intrigued with the Polish MAG 98 (wish I could get ahold of the Mag 08) , but who knows , gun show in Tulsa this weekend , we'll see!

DA/SA guns are great, and not that hard to master

I have been a 90% Glock shooter over the years, and still have never had any problem shooting my M9

I just recently changed from a G19 to a P229R for my EDC, and I am hitting 6" disks at 25ft with the first DA pull from draw with no problems at all
