.45 is more fun to shoot at 500 yards with. It's like lobbing mortars  4 seconds of flight time. You must be shooting some pretty slow .45 ACP. Mine makes it there in 1.6 seconds.  In vacuum maybe... 230 grain .45, 0.156 BC G1, muzzle velocity needed for 1.6 s flight time to 500 yards: 1450 fps 200 grain .45, 0.130 BC G1, muzzle velocity needed for 1.6 s flight time to 500 yards: 1630 fps |

At 500 yards, a 230 grain .45 FMJ round will pass completely through a 55 gallon steel fuel drum.
