I have a new 9mm Hi-Power with the spur hammer.  It's a major pain.  I've read that replacing the hammer/sear assembly for a ring-hammer (Colt Commander-style) with an aftermarket sear is a simple procedure, and as long as I'm not interested in reducing the trigger pull from the original 5-6 lb setting, I should be able to replace the parts, perform a function test, and I'm good-to-go.

I'm familiar with replacing parts on my 1911-A1 (again excluding trigger pull adjustments) so I don't anticipate a problem with this similar Browning-designed pistol, or should I be looking for a local 'smith to do the job 'properly'?

Have you thought about bobb-ing the hammer a bit?  You might want to try it (as a free solution) before you spend money.  Ive seen some nice bob jobs...

The AGI video on the Hi Power is actually pretty good.

I'm sure there's a you tube video somewhere of somebody detail stripping their Hi Power.

Well you could spend the money or just bob it and call it a day.  I'd just do the bob job as it's really easy to do and if in the end you just still don't like it buy a ring.
