Got mine yesterday, looks beat to hell on the outside but only minor scratches that will buff out. This is now the most accurate pistol I have, did a bunch of drills and no malfunctions. Thing is a tackdriver. The mk3 are cast, not forged and thus stronger, gonna cerakote it this week after a lot of prep work, internals are pristine and all work just as intended. You cannot buy a Belgium made MK3 anywhere else for under 800. So in my opinion its a great deal and Im very pleased. pics on finished gun later.

MkIII can be either forged or cast depending on when they were made.  For awhile FN was making both forged and cast at the same time even.  I own MKIII examples of both types.  While I prefer the cast frame, I doubt most shooters are going to notice the difference.

So these are Israeli guns? I bought one of the pre 1963 guns and it has the British style lanyard loop. But it looks like the loop was added later. I can't find any ID, but the lanyard loop and some of the proof marks seem UK.

Maybe the Brits sold them to Israel? Or FN took them back when Britain was upgrading?

Look inside the grip frame for the casting mark (right hand side, it is big and obvious).  Usually a 1996 would have a grooved frame; but there are examples of cast frame guns with smooth frames.

Neither of these has parallel grooves at the bottom rear of the magazine well.  Are they both likely forged?  Or could the '96 gun be cast without grooves?

Awesome, the '96 shows the cast mark, so it's a cast frame but does not have the grooves.  Thanks!
