THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
So the Sig is gone, the HiPower is here, seller kind of tricked me, but it worked out in my favor I think. Serial number starts with a "77D", so it looks like it's a 1977 date? There's no import mark, but it is marked Fabrique Nationale Herstal Belgique. What Mk. is this one?

Nice piece, in what way do you feel you were tricked?

This. Your post reads like you did a blind trade for your sig?

Looks like a nice HP to me, but I am not into HP so...

Tricked? I guess that would depend on how it was described and if you exchanged pictures and what Sig you traded if it was trade coupled with any cash exchange. It appears to have MKIII sights, but a MKII style safety and to check the date of manufacture you need to disclose a couple more of the serial numbers.

Seller sent me a pic of a nice MkIII blued hipower. Said it was his friend's hipower and friend would sell to him to trade for my P226. I agreed, sent off my 226. Few days later, get a call from an importer saying they recieved a money order in my name and there were no other details. I was confused as to what it was about, then realized the guy I was trading with sent a money order to them for a hipower. It ended up all right in the end, I am happy, but I do feel probably not the best way to go about on the trade on the seller's part. But all's well, so I'm not complaining.

I'm just trying to figure out if this is a Mk II or Mk III or what it is. I'm really happy with it, it's in really nice shape.

Did that HP come from Copes? They have dozens of Israeli surplus HP's on GunBroker from $349 and up.

If the seller offered a polished blue HP and then bought one of Copes and had it shipped to you...........you got scammed.

"77D" is not a known FN Hi Power serial number prefix......but if the contract was large enough FN would assign serial numbers however the buyer wanted.

As to MkII or III........it appears to be an FN contract Hi Power, so it may have non standard features as far as finish, grips, lanyard ring and safety (the larger ambi safety was introduced during the MkII years). While MkIII's were made with forged frames, most will be cast....look for grooves on the butt by the magwell.

It looks to me to be a MkIII......because it has a dovetailed front sight.

MkII features:
-raised rib on top of slide from rear sight to front sight
-front sight integral with slide, not pinned, not dovetailed
-"drain hole" at muzzle end of slide
-improved feedramp....not "humped".
-forged frame

That is what happened, and yes this is a "Copes" one. I am actually really happy with it; ring hammer, small safety and parkerized. I couldn't have picked one out that I would have more rather had, unless it were an Inglis or WWII one... I'm not upset if value-wise I got scammed, because I happened to end up with the features I wanted.

BTW - Cope's customer service and understanding at my confusion in all this was excellent.

Not having seen the polished blue HP the seller was offering I cant say whether it would have been more valuable. I have two MkII's that are butt ugly compared to my polished blue HP's....but I'll never sell either one.

It does trouble me that a seller would try and pull this bait and switch........please out this guy so the next buyer doesn't get taken.

WTH? You made the deal based on a polished blue MKIII, and then received that? What forum was this trade done on?

To me, that looks like an arsenal refinished Israeli. The grips have a lot more wear than the parkerizing. The sights don't match the safety type. I would say you traded for a $600 gun, and received a $350-400 gun.

I believe you got a decent HP but you got scammed if it was represented as a nice blue piece. Personally I'd be pissed and if the deal was on this site I'd be leaving less than favorable feedback.

It wasn't on this forum, yes he did show me a blued Mk III Israel turn in Hipower that was shiny. While I think what he did was crappy, I'm happy with what I ended up with, even if value is quite a bit lower. I personally like the used look and prefer this one to the one he pictured, even if his methods were tricky. I more wanted to know about any insights to the pistol I might not get on my yahoo search...

Without knowing what kind of Sig you traded I'd say you got ripped off. Coles has dozen's of ex Izzy HP's listed at any 1 time in the $370-400 range. If you traded a P-6 police trade in then ok but if anything higher then it sucks what he did.

That's more or less a stripped Mk III, no firing pin block IIRR with Mk III sights and small safety....pretty much SOP for Izzy contract HP's

No matter how you look at it, if someone actually posted a picture of a pistol that he didn't have in his possession, and had you send him ANY Sig pistol, (unless it was a mosquito) and then turned around and bought a Cope's Israeli Import HP (as already posted, that sell for around 350-400 all over the place) then you not only got scammed, but the guy is a shyster and ripping other people off too.

I'm glad you are happy and got what you wanted, but other people need to be warned about how this guy does business.

Enjoy your pistol. It looks nice. Wish my feg had swappable front blade.
