That's a good start. I'm curious to see if anyone has something like 30 or 40 thousand.

Here's what the late, great Hi-Power expert Stephen Camp has to say on the subject. This is from his book Shooter's Guide to the Browning Hi Power - Revised Edition:
A frequent question is how long a Hi Power will "last". I've seen various estimates that range from 30K to about 50K rounds with barrels needing replacement at about 20 to 25K full-house rounds.
I highly recommend his book. It can be found here. Edit: Fix typo. |

How many rounds before the slide is loose on the frame? I bought a used Kareen Mk-III and the rifling looks a little..soft, and the muzzle end of the slide has about 1mm of horizontal play.

If the frame is held steady, imagining the rearmost point of the slide as the axis, then the foremost point of the slide will be able to move side to side a total of 1mm. |

A friend of mine has several Hi-Powers with ridiculously high amounts of ammo through them. One broke the locking lugs on its barrel after 60,000+ rounds, but was put back in service after a new barrel install. He's still shooting it occasionally but much of his high volume shooting is now done with a CZ-75.
I just put 100 trouble-free rounds through my daughter's FM90 this afternoon. It's had jamming issues almost since she got it, especially with hollow point ammo. New springs didn't help until the same friend and Hi-Power nut cut the recoil spring back a coil at a time until it ran without problems. I then polished the feed ramp and deburred the inside of the ejection port, as these early import FMs(hers was imported by Sportarms Miami FL, not one of the newer Century imports)were rough as cobs. It now feeds even the goofy Aguila 'IQ' rounds, something it would balk at while chambering before we did the work. |

I`ve got about 20K through my FN Hi Power, purchased new in 85.
The slide to frame fit is a little looser than when new but it still shoots good. |

I carried as my duty weapon for about 4 years. I have no idea how many rds I've pounded downrange though. Somewhere north of 20K would be a good guess. |

The British ought to know.
I've easily fired over 10k from my Mk III Hi-Power since I bought it in 1994. The slide has loosened up a wee bit, but that is typical of a Hi-Power. It is still the benchmark 9mm combat pistol, it is still the gun to beat when it comes to practical accuracy and reliability, IMO. |
