THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
I've been going back and forth about getting a small carry gun to replace my 4" 1911 that I normally carry. I've decided to give the Kel-Tec PF-9 a try.

Who owns one of these, and how do you like it? Is it 100$ reliable? If not, what kind of issues have you had?

Thanks

Mine has a long and odd trigger pull. The recoil twist has been commented on by everyone I have let shoot it, seven people. It has the typical rough finish you find on kel-tec guns. It shoots everything I feed it and is rather accurate when I do my part, which I find hard to do with this gun. I am not comfortable with this gun beyond about 15 yards. Conceals like a dream.
In short not the greatest gun ever but it is what I carry when I absolutely positively must not be “made” carrying.

Friend of mine has one. He might post here. It seems fairly reliable.

He had rust problems with the barrel, but I nickel plated it and they went away.

I have a PF9 for my "when I can't carry a gun" gun. It IS 100% reliable with 147gr, 124 gr and 124gr Short Barrel +P, as well as with ball. I hate it and will never shoot it again if I don't have to. I have tested it for reliability, and would bet my life on it if I can't have a 45.

But the trigger pull is horrible, and it weighs about half as much as a 9mm cartridge (yeah I exaggerate), and recoils like hell. The trigger is so whacky I have to move it in my hand to complete the trigger pull, which makes it even more fun when it fires. If I ever shoot it again it will be at knife range, so that movement won't hurt accuracy.

I do not like it, but recommend it 100% if you HAVE to have a 9x19 and it HAS to be uberconcealable. FAR superior to resorting to a 380.

I picked one up a couple weeks ago:

-Reliability so far is 100% (after only 100 rounds through it).
-The trigger pull is long, not bad, just really long...I however like this for a pocket gun.
-Recoil is NOT as bad as what I expected after reading how so many people dread shooting thiers...I put 100 rounds through mine in one range session, I could feel a little tingle in my hand after that, but not unbearable.
-Finish isn't 100%, but for the price I wasn't expecting it to be a BBQ gun.

Overall, I love it. Seems to hide pretty well in most of my pants pockets. Need to put a few more rounds through her to trust it completely, but I feel confident in it so far.

I've had one for the last couple of years as my hot weather CCW and occasional BUG. It's been totally reliable, and the trigger on mine is smooth and clean, like a revolver trigger.

Had one, beat the ever lovin' shit out of me,traded it post haste, that said I'll be honest and admit it was more me then the gun-some of you will be able to handle the little beast.

My advice is try it out,if it doesn't work out just be rid of it and maybe try a P11 I did this and I'm 100% happy with the other Kel-Tec,of course the P11 isn't as easy to hide as a PF9 but I'd bet it's a shade better then a Glock 26,just get a holster for the stupid thing and be content...or get a .380 P3AT,Ruger LCP,Micro Desert Eagle or other host of small .380's that're out there.

Or save up and get that mini 9MM that's the size of a P3AT,with what I went through with the PF9 I'd hate to think of touching off the bastard

In the end it's up to you and how much you can take getting mauled

Recently purchased one.
Its a bit small for my hands, but I can shoot it accurately, followup shots aren't as accurate or as fast as my glock, but its a factor smaller than my G19.
The 10yard assessment isn't to far off, and after a little work there is no reason that these little guns can't be considered for carry.

That being said the PF-9 has a definite bite to it, recoil even with standard FMJ WWB is substantial... to say the least I have been trying to work out an issue with light primer strikes and firing more than 100rnds in a session is pushing it for me, but I think with the addition of a rubber grip it wouldn't be nearly as much of an issue.

I have one that I bought because I wanted something super small, easy to conceal, and 9mm. I have nothing but good things to say about it, as long as you shoot it correctly. Limp wrist it, and it won't work

I have one. It's been 100% w/ 115 FMJs, 124+p GDs, and 147HSTs. Has a bit of recoil w/ standard loads, but when I put in 124+p GDs it becomes snappy. POI is high as compared to POA. I never carry mine BTW. I bought it on a whim one day. I have other guns that fill most of my needs.

A friend of mine has one. Recoil is not as bad as people say it is. My P-3AT is worse. It basically feels like a larger heavier P-3AT.

I had one. Not fun to shoot IMHO. Too much muzzle flip. Traded it in on a PM-9, now THAT gun is sweet.

I love mine, but I really can't shoot it well as the trigger is a lot like a staple gun...

I had some very minor problems with mine, the rim of the chamber had a bit of a corner and once in a while the rim between the round and the brass would catch on the chamber and cause a FTF.
It was an easy fix with some 600grit paper and a dremel felt wheel.
I carry it every single day to work (graveyard shift + parking lot thugs ) in a self made IWB holster, I had some minor rust problems on the slide and the outside of the barrel, I fixed that by refinishing with brownells aluma hyde 2.

Last round slide lock back was another issue, but I found on KTOG that if you file the follower catch down a little it works better, so far it works great.

If you need a good carry gun thats light and small then get it.

My other favorite carry gun is my G19, and I'm a pretty good shot with that.

Shot mine for the first time today. When people say trigger like a staple gun, they aren't kidding. I was having a hard time hitting a piece of paper at 7 yrds. Otherwise, the recoil is no where near as bad as people make it out to be. Yes, it flips and jumps, but it's a trade of for what you get: an extremely lightwieght and slim 9mm. Most certainly not a target gun though, good at creating distance and that is about it. Some kind of trigger reset would be nice.

I carry mine everyday, it has been 100percent reliable, the trigger sucks and takes some getting used too.

I had exactly this experience. I bought one this week, and fired it today for the first time. I think the new ones are more reliable out of the box than they were a couple of years ago. I went through about 50 rounds and it worked very well. It did kick, but the primary reason I stopped at 50 rounds was that it was getting dark.

I chose it over the Kahr and Walther because it was significantly cheaper, and I didn't want to sink a lot of cash into a gun I would rarely use. I was pleasantly surprised. I don't think I had to compromise buying the PF-9. IT's good to go.

The trigger pull is outrageously long. However, that's the safety. You have to manage it like a DA revolver. However, with 7 + one in the pipe, it's an 8 shooter, not a 6 shooter.

I also believe the 380s are just too small to be worth it. Honestly, I'm not sure they could shatter a coke bottle. This 9mm rocks.

This model is my summer carry gun. I own a lawn business, wear t-shirts and shorts all summer and this baby tucks very nicely in a IWB.

I have had rusting problems due to sweating in the Missouri heat. But, for the money, it is worth it.

As for the range it does have a nice kick to it but I hit the critical area on a B-27 every time I pull the trigger. That is good enough for me.

Buy it, you will like it....

I like mine because it it completely disappear when carrying it inside the waist band. I forget it's there. When I keep it clean and lubed, I don't have any issues with it, and would trust it to get through the 2 mags i carry if I needed to use it.

I have one, I carry it IWB.

It's great, I carry it when I can't or don't want to carry a larger Glock 30 or 19, winter I usually have my 30 on me...

Recently I did some trigger work on mine, it was like a staple gun...
Took every thing apart and polished all contact surfaces and put it back together with the copper lube glock uses on new pistols, it helped a bit, not much but it is smooth.

Just like everyone else, I've got one and love it. Put over 500rds through it with out one malfunction. I made a small IWB holster for it and carry it almost everyday with jeans and a t-shirt. You won't be disappointed

Picked one up today. I have the whole week of Christmas off work and will probably get some range time in then.
