That thing looks like a cap-gun from the 80's. Very peculiar looking.

How's the 9x21mm compare to 9x19mm?

I am not the gun's owner, but I can answer: "How's the 9x21mm compare to 9x19mm?"

9x21mm. The case is 2mm longer than the 9mm Luger, but the magazine is the EXACT same size as a 9mm Luger, which means: same length cartridge.  In other words, the loaded  9mm Lugar and 9x21 rounds are the same length and can hold the exact same amount of gunpowder . For you reloaders, that means about 1.160" to maybe 1.165" OAL.

The 9x21 came to the USA from Italy where the Government bans civilians from owning a 9mm Luger chambered gun. The 9x21 won't fit in a 9mm Luger chamber.

Why did it come here? It came to compete in a sport that was called IPSC, but is now known as USPSA in the USA and IPSC outside the USA.

Once requirement of both USPSA and IPSC is the use of very powerful ammunition; and that power is tested with a chronograph at every match.

The limit used to be "175+ Powerfactor" which means bullet weight X velocity /1000 = or > 175.  Some examples for the 9x21 or 9mm Luger would be: a 124 grn bullet going faster than 1411 FPS. That is FAST!  As fast or faster than most .357 Sig. Its approaching the realm of .357 Magnum.

Now - you are wondering, where would one buy 9mm Luger ammo that hot? Wouldn't it blow up the gun or the case?

You can't buy ammo like that, it has to be loaded. As to the strength of the case and the CZ, the gun above is proof of the strength of both a CZ and the 9mm case.  IPSC/USPSA shooters rarely fire any weekend competition that is less than 100 rounds and several times a summer we shoot a "big match" or maybe the nationals where  it could be 400+ rounds over a day or two. Every round would be at that 175+ power factor level.

Problem was, around 1990, the leaders of USPSA got scared of possible liability. No guns or cases had blown, but they banned the 9mm Luger anyway (w/ certain exceptions).

The answer? Viola! the 9x21 comes to the USA. The brass is no stronger than the 9mm Luger and the guns are identical in strength. But the 9x21 got around the rule. The gun above is a perfect example.

They finally saw their mistake an let the 9mm Luger back into USPSA in 2003.  And they lowered the power factor to 165 (1330 FPS + for a 124grn).  That is still pretty hot.  But we now know that the 9mm Lugar can take a lot of ammo that is even hotter than current loadings which are called: "9Major".

hey speedfreak, nice work, what areas did you dehorn?  I dehorned and reparked my witness on nearly every metal edge because those guns are sharp!  The CZs aren't nearly as bad so i was just wondering what you did.  I was considering just dehorning the controls on my CZs, the slide stops and safeties are all pretty sharp and tend to snag.  I really radiused/chamfered the front of the slide on the witness, it was a nightmare getting it into soft holsters due to the square front end.  So much better now.

I've got one of those. Used to work in a pawn shop and the owner wouldn't let us carry open or otherwise. So I would slip my little CZ45 in my back pocket of pants. What the boss didn't know wouldn't hurt me! I know it was only a .25, but it sure would have beat the hell out of nothing at all and it made me feel a little better. Thank God I never had the occasion to have to use it. CZ still sells a similar version the CZ92 of course it won't pass the ATF's silly import specs.

I like the real mag release on the 92.

I had to put mine in my back pocket once.  Put the .44 Winchester 94 next ot the front door, but did not feel comfortable or the need yet to come out brandishing.  Stepped out to support the neighbor.  Like you said did feel better with the 25 in my pocket.  Would have used it to get back to the 94.

Is that Bakelite on the grip?  Mine has the Bakelite grips.  I wonder if I can get different grips to preserve the bakelite if and when I take it to the range.

CZ45
I was told once that the 47 just forwards of the trigger designates the year of manufacture.  Can anyone confirm?  Looks like I may have the oldest CZ here?

Other views if interested.

From my understanding that's the year the pistol was supposed to have been completed. CZ does that on all of it's pistols to this day. Mine was finished in 1956. My grips appear to be just a red plastic material. I've seen several of these little pistols over the years and have never seen them with black grips. I think it would be neat if CZ would look at this model again and try to build one in .32 acp. IMHO it sure seems stout enough to do something like that. The picture of the 92 I posted earlier is a later version of it. The earlier ones looked almost like the model 45's with the exception of the grips.

Take a second look at image IMG_5298.jpg.  The grip is not really black.  The Bakelite is red/brown/black.  You can see it better at the back of the grip.  So dark from a distance it appears black.

Supposedly a Iowa US occupation soldier (It took 8 years to pacify Germany) traded for it with an east block officer / soilder?  then brought it home to Iowa.  Owed my Great Grandfather money in 49' and traded it to relieve some of the debt.  Then it stayed in the hardware store register untill the store burned.  It was in his pocket that night as he took the deposit to the bank, so the pistol survived.  Then it stayed in the nightstand untill 20 years after his death.

I think both of our pistols are semi rare in the US.  Some filter in in the late 40s and 50s.  Less in the early 60s.  Then nothing as trade restrictions ceased all CZs coming in.  The updated version the CZ70 should be rare as hell.

The Complete Book Of Guns 2005 Buyer's Guide  Fall 2005 p84
"...and almost complete unavailability in the USA (due to political issues raised by the Cold War) inspired several U.S. clones."  They then list Seecamp in 82', Autauga Arms, North American Arms, and Intratec Pro-Tec 91'-97' all as making CZ45 clones.

In 85' Secamp came out with a .32 caliber version   So your thought of a .32 version is well founded.  The new poly frame of the CZ92 in .32 would be a nice little pistol.  Kel-Tec proved there is a market for these.

Just received my new CZ75 SS yesterday and got a chance to shoot it a little today.  Really like this new pistol of mine.  I haven't had a SA/DA pistol in a long time and this is sure a great example.  It will be doing duty as my concealed sidearm in the gun shop that I work in.  We have been getting some less than desirable types in the shop since Hurricane Katina.  The SS will also be helpful in the high humidity climate of south Louisiana.

Safeties, front strap of trigger, all the lines on the frame were "touched"
Sharpest part on a CZ  IMHO is the safeties and the front strap...

The engraving reads 'to the defenders of Sanski Most from Mehmed Alagic'

Alagic was a local warlord/Bosnian General who, at the time I took this pic, was running things out there in Sanski Most, Bosnia...now dead, he was an indictee for war crimes at the Hague.

Pics of my new CZ-52 and holster. The flash washed some things out and produced shadow that made other things look darker. My holster is much lighter in color than it appears in the photo, the gun isn't as gray looking, etc.

Very Nice!

How does it function with the supressor?  I assume you are using a recoil booster?  Why the 6" bbl?  What can?   How does it sound?

I love it!

Awesome pictures!

Of the designs, I still think those 1980's and early 90's Pre-B's are just wonderful.  I had one and sold it to "upgrade" to a Baby Eagle (big mistake).

Years later I began searching for another Pre-B, and a good friend decided to just sell me his old CZ-75 to replace it.  It doesn't look quite the same, but it's very close and I like it a lot.

I use mine for IDPA shooting - mostly because that way I can go through twice since you can shoot a CZ in two different classifications :).
