I was hoping for opinions on the Sphinx SDP.

1. Reliability. Have you experienced any failures? Are they picky about ammo?

2. How was the trigger? I assume the single action pull is nothing less than stellar, but what about the double action pull?

Plus anything else you might have noticed or that stood out to you. Thanks for your help.

I own a SDP Compact I picked up used. I probably have 500+ rounds through it and never had a single hiccup using all factory brass cased ammo. The internal fit and finish is absolutely amazing. The first time you field strip it you can see the attention to detail and the time that was needed to make it. The DA trigger is smooth, but has some stacking at the end and is heavy. The SA is nice and crisp and has a very short reset. I eventually put in a CGW spring kit and that greatly improved the DA trigger and a small improvement on the SA pull weight.

Have you tried running any hollow points through it?

Not yet, but will shortly as I have a holster eventually on the way so I will carry it from time to time.

Damn you Kaptanjak for making me check up on the Sphinx pistols more in depth.
I got my eye on a SDP compact.   I already have a couple CZ pistols so it would be neat to have a variation on the design

I'm just going on the assumption that the SPD FDE PRODUCTION is a myth and I'm fine.

Ha, lucky for you guys I've already justified the price by coming up with a very convincing argument, and I would be happy to let you all share in my newfound version of reality. Prepare to be enlightened!!!

A base model SPD compact goes for about 900ish, which is 600 dollars less than a middle of the road Kimber. Sphinx uses no castings or MIM, while Kimber uses both. Sphinx uses top of the line finishes and coatings, while Kimber uses carbon steel and leaves it buck naked, as if to add insult to injury. Sphinx has a flawless reputation, while Kimber is famous for being the only four figure gun to come already rusted from the factory. Yet, people think it's perfectly rational to pay 1500 for a Kimber and call it madness to pay 900 for a Sphinx?

Heretical, I know, but consider this...

A Glock is about 600 with tax. Then you have to shell out another 200 for night sights, which the Sphinx comes with standard. Then another 300 to upgrade the trigger, which will still never come anywhere close to the Sphinx. That's 1100 dollars for a Glock! Therefore, the Sphinx is actually 200 dollars cheaper than a Glock!

Obviously, the Sphinx is an outstanding value, one that will save you hundreds of dollars. We simply cannot afford not to buy one!

Disclaimer: Despite the perfection that is my logic, this argument will likely fail to impress your wives, so please ensure that you have removed the price tag (and burned it) before bringing home a Sphinx. I cannot be held responsible for what might happen if your wives find out you paid 900 dollars for a plastic gun. Failure to conduct proper operational security in this matter will likely result in spontaneous purchase of diamond earrings. Consider yourselves warned

You don't have to rationalize
I carry a $500 pocket knife and my rationalization is that I like it.   It may not be $400 better than Spyderco PM2 but it's a small luxury in life that I indulged on.
The Sphinx cost no more than a Sig mk25 so I don't understand anyone having to justify it over a regular CZ or Glock etc.
Make no mistake I don't believe that the Sphinx is better than a CZ they certainly don't have the long track record of relibilty.
However that isn't a knock on Sphinx they just haven't earned it "yet".

Bottom line is that some people myself being one of them will pay for extra piece of mind above and beyond what just works.
In some cases people again myself being one of them will pay extra for something just because they want it vs the other choices.

Anyway good luck on your purchase I am looking hard at that FDE compact and it's pretty much your fault.
Hell I even cleaned the house today to soften the blow on the "what did you buy now"from my wife.

Get the Sphinx, post lots of pics so we can drool over it. They are gorgeous guns.

I prefer their older design with only one light slot on the rail, looks much cleaner

Just don't forget to hide the price tag. Nice move cleaning the house, but don't lay it on too thick or she'll become suspicious. Women are smart that way...

"Have you lost weight?  You look amazing!"  usually does the trick

I think I'm going to have to get one of these Sphinx pistols.

I have a P07 that I love, but a Swiss made version?   Have to have it

My wife has been onto my game for a long time there isn't much that's getting by her. The good news is she supports my hobbies and guns are a lot cheaper to collect than when I used to drag race.          I am going to swing by a shop that is listed as a dealer on Monday and see if I can put my hands on one maybe i'll like it

I see you're in SC, there is a guy up here in NC (Cary) that is a Sphinx dealer. He posts on the Carolina Shooters Club often
