So I have been on the market for a 9mm CZ recently, and have been doing my homework and asking around. You guy's have been a huge help with the search.

With a little bit of luck, I came across this beauty today, a used SP-01 Tactical in 9mm. In the factory box was all the paperwork, including the test target, with a date of 09/04/09. Not sure if that means September 4th, 2009, or April 9th, 2009.

The gun on the outside was flawless, not a spot on it. No dings, scrapes, marks etc. The inside is filthy though, looks like the previous owner never cleaned the thing What a shame to treat such a fine piece of art.

The gun came with the original box, manual, test target, (2) 18-round factory mags, and the brush & patch rods. All this for a whopping $499.79 out the door. Needless to say, I am happy with the purchase

Got it home tonight, and the more I F.F. the gun, the more I am falling for it. I cannot wait to get it to the range and put some ammo through it.

Got 2 questions though:
- 1st is probably a pretty common one, and the question is what holster to get for it. I am looking for a strong side (right side) hip carry, OWB. I was thinking about running a light on it, so the option of a holster that holds the gun with light would be a plus.
- 2nd is a question that may not be as common. Is there an extended threaded barrel available for this model, and if so, what's it take to put it in? Is it a drop in, or does it need to be sent to the CZ Custom Shop. I think a polished stainless threaded barrel would look super bad-ass, and would give me the option of running a suppressor on the gun down the road.

The only mods I am thinking of doing for sure is a set of VZ G10 grips, as the factory rubber ones are a bit wide for my small hands. I can still grip it well, but I think slimmer grips will make it feel even better.

Anyways, thanks again for the help guys, and here is a quick pic of the gun in all it's glory.

Very nice! hope you have good luck with it. I originally ordered a 9mm, but they were so backordered I just went for the .40 sp01 Tac. I am getting really good with it after approx. 6-800rnds through it. I am in the same boat as you with regards to the grips and have been on the search for a nice set of G10 grips as well. And check out topgunsupply.com for magazines. I bought 4 additional 12rnd mags for only 22 bucks, MecGar as well.

Very nice. Mecgar mags are probally your best/cheapest route. The factory 18 mags get expensive real quick.

As far as holster you looking for Kydex or Leather. If Kydex then the only big company is Blade Tech and with no light option. Mine works well enough. Leather I have no clue.

Never really was a fan of Kydex to be honest. Simply Rugged offers their "Cuda" holster for the SP-01. I have two of there holstesrs already (both Cudas) and their products are outstanding.

Simply Rugged Cuda

Since the gun will be wearing it's light during "nightstand duty", and will not be in a holster at that time, then the leather one for just the gun should be okay.

Since the gun is 3 years old, and I don't know how many rounds are through it, I was thinking about buying new magazine springs, and a new recoil spring. Think this is a good idea? Any other springs I should replace?

The SP-01 tactical was my first CZ also.

Nice looking CZ's there.

I field stripped it last night, and cleaned the piss out of the gun. It was absolutely filthy. I even pulled off one of the grip panels to clean inside of the magwell, as there was what looked like old, gummy oil in there

I cleaned it, oiled it, and lubed the rails and now the thing feels smooth as butter, if not smoother. The trigger is nice and smooth, not gritty at all, in both SA and DA mode.

The only thing worrying me is the magazine springs. They seem a little on the weak side. I think I will order a bunch, to replace the ones I have, and have a couple spares. At the same time, I was thinking about replacing the recoil spring, and possibly going to the stainless guide rod.

I also found a little product called the DPM Recoil Reducer, which looks pretty interesting. Found a video on it on youtube that you guy's may be interested in.

Whats your impression of muzzle flip and recoil with the .40 version? Is it fast to double tap and reacquire sight picture? Have you tried any of the Mecgar 14 rd magazines for the .40?

Does anyone know whether its possible to purchase spare complete slides for the SP01 Tactical? Might be fun to have one slide with metallic sights, and one with a micro red dot

Very nice find.
I almost bought one recently, NIB, but it was dinged.

Bladetech could probably make one for your light combo, even if it's not listed on their site.
Tech-Lok is a nice option to have.

The reset is good. Has a good tactile feel to it.

Not as much as a glock, but much more so than a M&P.

Wanted to give a quick update on my SP-01 Tactical.

Was able to take it to the range last Thursday (the 12th) for a little shooting. Prior to shooting it, I replaced the magazine springs with factory springs, and I replaced the rubber grips with VZ Tactical Diamonds. I also swapped out the recoil spring for a recoil spring from a Shadow. CZ sent me the wrong spring by mistake. I called them up to see if the gun would still be okay, and they said the Shadow spring would be better than the normal spring for plinking / target shooting. I asked if +P's would hurt the gun with the Shadow recoil spring in the gun, and he assured me that it would be fine and not to worry. Not exactly sure what pound-rating the Shadow spring is though.

Anyways, with the gun cleaned & lubed, springs & grips replaced, it was off to the range. Ammo used was Speer "Lawman", 115 grain FMJ, and I ran some Winchester Ranger 124 grain +P FMJ as well. shot 25 rounds of the +P Ranger, and roughly 250 of the Lawman. Had no issues at all, except for one underpowered Lawman round. It was the last round in the mag, and it didn't push the slide back far enough to lock it back. I checked the barrel after the round went off (noticably less recoil & way different noise) to check to make sure the round actually left the barrel, which it did.

Went to the range with 4 other family members, and all of which loved shooting the CZ due to its ergonomics and it's light recoil. I did notice the +P's added a little recoil, but noting too drastic. Overall, I absolutely love the gun.

Also took an updated pic with the newer grips:

And in black & white....

Those grips are nice looking! I have the Hogue finger groove grips on my SP01, and while I like them, they're not very attractive. Might have to see about a new set of grips for mine!

Btw, if you're looking for a leather owb holster, you can't beat Kirkpatrick's.
