Before the CZ75 was permitted to be imported because of their ties the Soviets, Tanfoglio filled the void by producing copies of the CZ 75 varients. The early Tanfoglios used a hammer drop safety instead of the frame mounted design. The Tanfogolio guns were reported to be sold under other names such as Jericho, Desert eagle and a couple of other brands. At one time FIE imported the Tanfoglio which were made in Italy IIRC. I've shot a couple of examples over the years and most used steel frames and slides and tended to be a bit large for CCW. Some of the target and competition guns were reported to be pretty accurate.

Tanfoglio, thank you for spelling it correctly by the way, (gunbroker hint, search Tangfolio) makes spectacular guns with an awesome reputation. Search around, they can be had for a steal of a deal most times. Italy's finest

I'ma big fan of Beretta pistols & rifles, but I think Tanfoglio makes the best firearms out of Italy. Google "Valley of the Gun", it's the region these come from, they have a solid reputation for making some really nice stuff. CZs will usually come out of the box with nicer triggers than EAAs on the average, but with $200 to $300 higher prices. Where CZ beats EAA is customer service and aftermarket support. A few years ago I'd tell you to spend a few dollars more for a CZ, now that more people know about them their prices have crept up, EAAs prices haven't changed much over the same time span. Most Turkish CZ clones are $300-$350 in my area, i can buy an EAA Witness .45acp in stainless right now for $390. If I didn't already have a CZ 97B in my collection I'd grab that EAA today.
EAAs in .45acp & 10mm are also the same approximate sized frame as the 9mm, where my CZ 97B is HUGE! If And I know Witness .45acp comes in a compact version as well. |

Some of the models fit in great for shooting competition divisions (stock2, limited, gold team), while they may seem pricey they are cheap for what you get. Most of the other models are an odd fit by modern standards for general purpose, carry, ccw standards. The Elite Match models really stand out, in the $500s you get something close to a 2011 style pistol dirt cheap. The trigger out of the box is very very good, Single Action only, the trigger has user-adjustable overtravel and reset adjustments, the massive 46oz weight means almost not felt recoil on the 9mm model I have. Presentation is very nice with a good case and the card with the name of the gunsmith that assempled your gun. Dawson makes a cheap front fiber sight for it, the taylor freelance extensions get to 21+1 or 22+1 capacity.

The current production full size guns are the go-to gun for USPSA Production division.

Two of my favorite handguns above! The Grand Power and the Elite Match! What's amazing is the K100 in 9mm shoots as flat and recoils as lightly as my Elite Match in 9mm...and it weighs a pound less!
|
|
They are the BEST competition guns out.
look up Stock 2 and Stock 3, Limited Pro and the Limiteds. Depending on which class you shoot that is the way to go. The Stock 2 has dominated the USPSA, IPSC competitions world wide. |

i have afullsize witness p in 9mm. i love it. very accurate. it shoots anything i put through it. had 2 malfunctions in 1500+ rounds (cheap ammo i think, but couldve been the gun).

Is that MOSSAD from cdisales on gunjoker? View Quote Actually got it from a ASU student from Israel. Arizona resident now. I think he had three. I saw the one your talking about and almost bought it. They were run pretty hard but haven't seen a non functioning one yet. Got it more for conversation piece. Auction expired the first time no bidders at $290. I would re spring it maybe sand blast it and have it parked. Mine eats everything imaginable. |

That's a nice pistol there. Would love to have it.
Just went to the gunshow to buy a 40S&W mag for the convertible. Found one place that had one $40. All the other 40 mags were on the big frame and would not fit. I guess I will be buying CZ mags for it. Either way Very nice firearm you have there. |

I would really like a Gold Match 6" in 10mm. In fact, if I had one I'd probably start deer hunting again.

The only experience Ive ever had with a Tanfoglio was 29 years ago an acquaintance showed me his Tanfoglio Gardone .32 ACP pocket pistol. It was an unremarkable POC that I had no interest in and was embarrassed for him for owning it. Im guessing Tanfoglio Gardone is not the same company that manyfactures the pistols that are getting glowing reviews here now?

I was just looking at an EAA at the lgs. I forgot the model number already. FA(something?) It had the squared trigger guard, drop down slide release and slide mounted hammer drop safety and one magazine. Priced at $339. Worth a second look?

Probably be ok depending on caliber. If it's a 9 you will be fine. If it's a 10, Id go with one of the Elites or Stock models. |

Never had any interest in the 75, but the GF just started carrying one cocked & locked. SA trigger's not bad. We sell a Turkish clone @ work, hadn't really pushed it. Are most of the clones dimensionally identical? Parts interchange, etc?
|

Cz's and Tans are a bit different. You would have to know which route they followed to tell what they have in common.
I hear they are solid guns though. My Cz97 cost a bunch. The Turkish ones in 45 are well reviewed and a lot cheaper. CZ custom works on them so they aren't that far off. |

I've always been interested in the Tanfoglio Witness since they offer it in a 38 Super....
I happened across a used full sized in 38 Super last week. Price was nice- someone traded it in to get an AR . Same shop also had a Witness-P 10mm (shorter barrel, fullsized frame). Dealer said he sold it originally to guy who wanted a 10mm for protection against bear when hunting . Any how, the recoil was too much for the person, so he brought it back......got something else. Needless to say, I got both for grand total of $900...... I like the narrower grip of the 10mm Witness P, but like the weight of the metal 38 Super. Granted, both slides interchange (tried), so I might put the shorter (bull barreled) 10mm on the metal frame and the 38 Super on the polymer. I'll see. I haven't had a chance to play with them yet. I'm concerned with what a previous poster said on 38 Super accuracy. I'm sure that I'm not a great shot, so I'm confident that I'll never shoot as good as the gun is built with any of my weapons (well, minus that POS Intratec AB10 that had a shot out barrel - the 9mm bullet would fall through the barrel....rifling would NOT bite.....another story). I think I do recall seeing the Tanfoglio branded under IMI years ago....late 90s, early 2000s. If I recall, it was only a 9mm then..... I looked online and I can order a barrel in 40 SW so I can swap my 10mm to a 40. I suppose I could do that w/ my 38 Super to 9mm if I wanted to. Another slide (long slide) might get bought eventually in 10mm.....I'll see. |
|
That short barreled 10mm is going to be one snappy critter. Steel frame Tans have a great feel to them.
38 super is a great cartridge. It's just to save money most have been shot with the crappiest ammo available. It was the cartridge to have in competition for years. |

I put a Lonewolf long slide 6" on my Glock 21 (to make a 10mm) w/ a 22 or 24 pound spring. That short barrel on the Witness P will be interesting for sure.....don't even know what spring weight it has for factory. As I said, at some point I plan to pick up a 40 SW barrel for it, but if I read the website right, that barrel is out of stock (maybe the 10mm owners wanting to shoot something else....) Who makes barrels for them beside factory.....kind of itching for a 357 Sig barrel..... |

I really like that Witness Stock 3 in stainless and the blued/black versions are amazing. I have owned the polymer pistol EAA made years ago and it was reliable and accurate. The Witness and Gold Match are very attractive looking guns.

I am pretty pumped. I have one of these on the way. https://eaacorp.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/witness_limited1.png View Quote That's one nice gun there. It will come with a hardball recoil spring. If you shoot a lot of under powered softball loads buy a 18# or so one and it'll be more reliable. Just mark one with some of the misses nail polish so you can tell them apart. Very nice. |

I got a 2015 Steel frame 10mm last week.It has the heavy profile slide,and
slide has 10mm stamped on the top rib. Also, the frame has grooves, front and rear. They have went up in price across the line, but this one is much nicer than the two i had in the early 90's. |

Does anyone here have experience with these handguns? They kind of look similar to a CZ. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8383/8587821704_dbe7d6c475_z.jpg View Quote My teammate has a couple of stock 2s that he uses for production division. Awesome handguns. The front strap checkering is a tad aggressive (not really a bad thing) and they have had some finicky moments in practice, but they're accurate, fast, and have very little recoil due to the weight. |

The top shooters in the world shoot Tanfoglio's and CZ's....so yeah, I'd say they're good guns OP. ;)
|
|
What model is that in the OP's picture? I have been looking for a Stock 2 for a few weeks, just trying to get one around $1K. I see them on GB for about $1,100.
|

I like mine, it started life as a regular bottom end gun, but got a "free upgrade" to the older style match slide when the slide cracked (issue on the wonder finish guns, since resolved, but TONS of people bought them TO let them crack and get the free match slide, I am one of those people)
10mm is a little bit of a handful, not bad though, VERY accurate gun. |
|
Nice run there...I got a deal on the one with two slides. 9mm and forty on the small frame.
Bought it for my wife or so I thought... |
|
I've liked the stock 2's for a while. Being that they are still really hard to get in 9mm I think I'm getting an x-caliber.
