I cannot figure out how to get the slide off the frame.  I pulled the frame back and twisted the barrel loose from the worm gear (the barrel falls out at this point).  I would think the slide is then moved forward completely off the frame, but no go in either direction.  It always gets caught on the worm gear of the frame.

Also the safety is very loose and can easily fall off.  Can anyone advise?
