It looks like an Iver Johnson Safety Automatic Hammerless model. Are there any more markings on the gun? What does the writing on the barrel say? Patent dates caliber, etc.?

therea are no other markings, just the serial number and the made in usa. but i am leaning towards the iver johnson you mentioned

Probably not an IJ. They marked their's with their name and "Safety Hammerless". There were a number of less well made firearms of this ilk. Remove the grips and check there for more identifying marks.

H&R will have their name, various patent dates and a Mass address on barrel top. S/N on butt.

my opinion is:
US Revolver Co .32 S&W Short caliber. This is a trade name for an Iver Johnson Cycle Works gun from about 1900 period. The value is about $150 in that condition. |

Here's an Iver Johnson, @1896 best I've been able to find out it's black power. But my dad has run some smokless rounds through it.
Your's does not have the safety triger so it may be an earlier model
