Hhahahaha yes. I get it. I feel your pain. Small semi guns are no
pleasure to shoot. They have no mass to absorb recoil. So the designers use grip angle, and webbing of the handle curve to focus recoil energies.... Bersa, walther, makarov, p64, etc all pound on you |

Ya, same goes for the lil Kel Tec .380s. I probably put about 60 thru mine before I put it back in the box and never touched it again. I felt like I had my hand clamped in a vise for the next two days. I've shot .454 Casulls and .44 mags thats don't hurt my hand nearly as much.. haha crazy right?
No more pocket .380s for me! |

I shot 3 rounds of trap through a crappy and very light 20 gauge single barrel shotgun that i picked up for a song to use while dog training. Worst bruising ever from using a shotgun. 25-24-24 FWIW
I think that's analagous. Oh, my dad has a lightweight mountain .270 that I don't care to ever shoot again. I've shot .338 magnums with less ouch to bang. Yes that's ouch to bang. Put it on a graph. Lightweight guns are the suck for recoil. |

I've owned a Makarov, PA-63, Bersa Thunder .380, P3AT and currently a P238. The worst was the P3AT because the lack of grip, the best being the P238 which I could shoot all day. None of them gave me any fatigue though or hurt my hand.

Shooting the MPA Protector 380 feels just like shooting a Seecamp 380, and it is just as small for about a forth the price. I was really surprised at the overall quality considering the price, and after 60 rounds no real signs of wear to the frame or slide. So far it has been very reliable, and more accurate than I was expecting. I just ordered the upgrade kit that has magazine extension, and a new trigger to make it a little less painful to shoot.

Or a versatile Bersa in .380 I've never shot the mak, but i have put 350 hot loads through a p3at in one session and a couple hundred through a bersa and I wasn't phased. I will admit that everyone else that shot them hated them and I have medium sized hands in front of tree trunk forearms (rapid fire 40 rounds of .480 ruger in a couple minutes did hurt though )
eta: it wasn't in 1 straight shoot though, about half before lunch and half in the afternoon. |

I had a pa 63 9 x18 sold it for a small light gun it no fun to shoot. I have a cz 82 in same caliber but heavier gun. I got some Wolf springs but have not tried them yet in the cz 82. I would think other gun would have some spring inprovments that could be made.

But 2 mags through my seecamp and back in the pocket it goes. btw: wish I'd seen these before I bought my LWS380, might have gone that route instead. |

My LCP doesn't bother me much, but I tend to keep a death grip on it. If your hand gets loose it gets quite painful, ESPECIALLY with +Ps.

I feel your pain. The most painful gun I shoot is a S&W Chiefs Special.
That little 38 pounds the web of my hand harder then my 357 does. |

Once I fired a magazine full of ammo through my friend's AMT Backup. It was extemely painful. It felt like my hand had been hammered. |

I've put over 600 rounds through my Glock 21 in a day of training with no problems or pain whatsoever. When I train with my LCP I shoot 100 rounds. Probably shouldn't shoot it that much, because the web of my hand is severely fatigued after 50 to 75 rounds. Unlike the guy above, I have large hands backed up by moderately thin forearms. D'oh! |

I bought it as a plinker, but it was NOT fun to shoot. My Makarov on the other hand is very enjoyable. Aftermarket rubber grips made the difference on it. It's one of my favorite pistols. |

If it's a fixed barrel (blowback) .380, then, yeah... I had a PPK/s that would annoy me after about 100 rounds. Nicest trigger ever, accurate as hell... I SO should not have sold/traded that one.
I also had a Colt Mustang .380, and shooting that one was a pussycat. It actually used a locked breech mechanism instead of blowback. |

Hows THAT for painful? |

I bought a Sig 232 for my wife a few years ago and had a similar experience. Everyone including her disliked the pistol, and I had to sell it for something else because she always took my 1911 at the range and stuck me with the .380. With the Hogue grips installed I couldve beat James Bond's ass with that pistol, really was a nice shooter.

Another proud Seecamp 380 owner here. It's a work of art, but I'm dying after about 50 rounds.

People equate the .380 with light recoil, but that ignores both the lighter weight of the pistols normally chambered for it as well as the reduced area of the grip and back strap. In truth, stout .380 loads in a small/light pistol are not for the feint of heart.
I can shoot a few hundred rounds of 230 grain .45 Auto in a 3" aluminum framed pistol and not notice a thing. But 50 rounds of 100 grain .380 loads mimicking my 102 gr SD load in a PPK/S gets my attention. Not exactly painful, but I feel it and know I've been shooting. In general, a really firm grip will make it more manageable and more pleasant to shoot. –––––– In some respects small .357 revolvers are more pleasant to shoot. In general, the grip on a revolver is designed to allow the gun to roll upward in recoil, spreading out the recoil. In contrast, many semi- auto pistols recoil straight back into the web of the hand. |
