I have a PM9 and it's the only gun of any kind that's given me problems. It started off with FTF issues. After a few hundred rounds that seems to have worked itself out and it feeds reliably but the bigger issue is what appears to be soft primer strikes. I used to hear the dreaded "click" once every magazine or two. Recently at the range it was one in 50 rounds. Last time it was one in about 30. An improvement but still unacceptable for even a backup self defense weapon. The round always fires with the next trigger pull. I've had it a few years but probably have only 500 or so rounds through it. It seemed to happen more regularly with the white box Winchester ammo from Wal-Mart than other brands, but the fact is it still happens occasionally.

Anyone had the same issue? Is sending it in to Kahr the only way to remedy this? I really do like it and want to be able to rely on it as a mostly backup but occasionally main carry gun. It will probably be my last Kahr though.

There may be some crud in the striker channel. I have heard of some that took non-chlorinated brake cleaner and sprayed the channel out, and some disassemble the slide and clean it out. May not help, but worth a try.

With the slide off the gun, you can push the striker forward with your finger. While flushing it out, work it back and forth real good to help get any crud out. You can also see how far it produdes by pushing it forward.

If the striker seems to be working normally, then it's either a weak spring, or the little cam isn't pulling the striker back far enough before it lets go, causing weak primer hits. Ammo with harder primers to start off with will be worse.

If you clean the striker out real good and it's still funky, I would send it back.

Thanks guys. I did just that today. Hosed the striker channel out real well with the Breakfree cleaner and gave it a good lube job. Everything seems to be functioning fine when manually manipulating it. Taking it out to to tonight and going to fire as many rounds as I can through it. Thanks again. Hope you're right!

My PM45 had the same issue at the end of a range session so when I took it home I opened up the striker channel (Kahr says DO NOT do this). Lo and behold, there was crud in there, and even some tiny brass shavings. I blasted it all out, put the guts back in, and it ran fine after that.

I would also be careful in giving it a good lube job. I wouldn't lubricate anything in the firing pin channel once it's been cleaned. That will accelerate the collection of junk right back in there and assist in slowing the striker again. I certainly understand your concern. My PM9 is my BUG on duty and my off duty pocket gun.
