After quite a while searching on the web and here I am no closer to understanding if the latest SA 1911's are made in USA or Brazil. It seems clear that the 1911's of a few years ago were made in Brazil but I've read conflicting information about the current batch. Can anybody enlighten me?

Up until around the middle of last year, the general consensus is that NM marked serial numbers were from forgings from brazil, but finished in the US and were generally better fit.
N marked serials were completely fit and finished in Brazil and were marked "made in brazil" and in general a little less refined than the NM serialed guns.
SA now sources everything from the US, but hasn't said where in the US, Imbel is no longer in the picture.

This was stated by Alchemy Custom, former SACS employees.

Is this true? That all SA 1911s are now made in the USA?

FYI - I called Springfield Armory today and the Customer Service Rep confirmed that their 1911 pistols are all American made - this includes parts.

She said they no longer source nor have anything built in Brazil - all parts are sourced from the United States and also assembled here as well.

Just thought I'd pass that along - I know I was curious myself.

Anyway to tell when your pistol was manufactured?

Field strip and look at it. It will say made in...

When, call s a only way I know, they can narrow it down to the month iirc.

The older pistols may have Imbel printed on the frame under the grip panels but I have also seen older ones with them on one side of the dustcover and under the dustcover as well.

Most of the "newer" Imbel guns were marked above the serial number as Made in Brazil.

As far as age, contact SA and they should be able to give you year and possibly month of manufacture.

Any idea why they stopped using Imbel?

Company focus on the XD line. 1911s aren't a priority for them.

my "N" prefix Loaded is a great pistol.

If you find a good deal on one - don't pass it up just due to the Imbel aspect, unless you are wanting 100% American.
