Hey guys, so yesterday my father and I went out shooting, we only took our 12gauge and our 40 for a few hours of fun in this new area we were in. It was my second time going, and his first. We found the spot from a friend, and while we were there our awning had caught a lot of wind, and I grabbed it and was holding onto it like a kite, all along this had happened right after I finished shooting the 40, and sat it down with the slide open because my dad was about to load his clip, and shoot it. Well, in the panic to of our awning breaking from the wind we hurried and tried to move the awning to attach it to the back of our truck, and we walked forward and the leg snagged on our table which our guns were on, and dropped them both into the dirt. The shot gun was okay, but the pistol got the worse of it. It got dirt everywhere. So now today I had to go get more rem oil and clean it since all we had was a small bottle. This sucks. Ruined our entire day of shooting.

If you dropped it, you better go get a new one. It won't ever be the same again.
ETA: Shit, thought this was GD. Clean it and it'll be fine.

Again, not trolling. What would I be trolling for? Also, being in California doesn't mean anything. I've lived all over the states. I purchased my XD in Washington state, actually.

A little dust will in no way negatively affect an XD. Strip it...wipe it down...lube it...reassemble...carry on. Really, all you need to do is carry on.

Check the barrel for obstruction, and carry on. First round will blow the dirt off it.

Should have bought a Glock.
Fuck it's a gun, not a piece of delicate machinery, it can handle dirt. |
|
Was it a 30 round clip from a ghost gun?
Because that's yer problem right there. |
|
I'd have rinsed mine off in a mudpuddle and gone back to shooting.

Maybe give it a tap or two to shake the worst of it out but yeah, bore's clear, and the gun doesn't literally look like a dirt clod, it better work. My XD45 does. Which is good, riding quads tends to make guns dirty. |

For a lube RemOil is fine, it may not protect against corrosion as well as others but it is oil. The dirt would not have hurt, I would have shot the rest of the day a just cleaned once at home.

guns are tools; no tears need be shed when a crowbar earns a new scratch
next time you buy a gun take it outside, make sure it is clear, and throw that bitch in the dirt/gravel/puddle/concrete |

Could have been worse, Glock torture tests
|
|
This thread is lame. Goddamn it's a mass produced tool not some antique piece. Dust it off, check for barrel obstruction and carry on. Guns get dirty from use no need to make a thread about it

shake the gun to get the bilk of the dirt out, rinse it off with whatever liquid you have on hand(water, beer, piss, etc..), make sure the barrel is clear and go shoot it.

1. Grab gun by handle
2. Find pond 3. Fully submerse gun with hand still attached 4. Swish it all around cause that's what its all about

It will be fine. The only thing I would personally worry about might be the muzzle crown getting nicked up by a stone or something. But really it's a combat pistol, if dumping it in the dirt actually causes some problem, then buy a different gun.
Like a Glock |

I'm thinking OP is a kid and dad isn't very gun savvy. I've seen it before, in fact my own father is not knowledgable in regards to guns at all. We had a few guns growing up but everything in regards to them was a big deal. Thankfully my best friends grandfather was a small town doctor, hunter and sportsman...he is who I thank for my understanding and interest in guns and nature.

Heck I dropped my xd .45 compact on the pavement outside my house. I picked it up looked it over and guess what? It was fine no problems.
Ok so it had some new scratches on it but the muzzle crown was fine and it is good to go. Still shoots fine and just as accurate. I used to get all upset if I got a scratch on a gun or something. But I don't mind now as long as it works. |

Since it was a post from CA, I thought the "clip" was in reference to smoking something...

Dirt in combat pistol. Step one pick up, step two shake, step three shoot. Problem solved
