I currently already have the 4.5in Xd-m 9mm. I am looking into getting into competative shooting and 3 gun. Would it be benifitial to trade it in and upgrade to the new 5.25 in xdm 9mm comp?

thank you for any feedback.

Instead , try the Springer Precision trigger upgrades.

You will be glad you did.

When shopping for my XDm, I bought the 5.25 instead of a 4.5 because I couldn't add the same upgrades for the cost difference. I am certain the upgrades I could have put in are far better than the factory parts on the 5.25, but for my current needs, was enough better to make the choice.  If you are happy and proficient with the 4.5, I'd spend the money on upgrading, unless you just plain want a new toy.

ETA:
Both my brothers have upgraded 4.5 XDMs, and at the level I can do my part, I think you'd be happy still upgrading your current 4.5.

Drop in a trigger kit and change the sights, minimal cost vs. upgrading.

If you are patient the Springer is drop in. Had a gunsmith install mine along with sights, extended grip safety too. He had to do minor fitting upon install. Trigger was much better afterwards. I still think the XDm has alot of take up originally, but reset Iis short and break is crisp now.
