I need your help on deciding what to get. I have a chance to purchase a TRP operator with full rail in great condition 8.5/9 out of 10. Has about 800 rounds.
Comes with a bunch of extras for same price as a new one with half rail.

I'm fairly new to 1911 but saw there was some hype about the full rail.  I'd just lile the opinion of others that are in the know.
The full rail is from around 2001. Not that makes a difference.

Thanks.

Full rail is functionally less efficient IMO. However, it is a rarer gun and is pretty cool in its own way.

I have a full rail Operator TRP and it is one of my favorites

I'd rather half rail, but wouldn't turn down a full rail priced right.

Thanks for the replys. He's pretty firm on 1,700 with 6 magazine and a X300 tac light.  From searching around that price is middle of the road from what I've seen.
It would purely be a range gun as my combat pistols are all polymer.

Also from what I hear. Here in Hawaii a TPR operator can't be used in competition.

I'd buy the full. You can find half rails all over new. I don't believe they have produced the full rail TRP in a few years

TPR operator , sjhould be good to go in Open, Ltd, Ltd-10.
I can see it being a no go in SS and IDPA CDP.

I would go with the full rail, just cause 800 is nothing on a 1911 (or most modern day pistols) and the extras you are getting for the same cash as new.

I haven't been able to find a half rail new.
They pop up in my LGS about every 3 months

They still make the FR TRP, though not in huge numbers.  They're out there though.

I see 1/2 rail models all over the place, though.

ETA:  Proud owner of 5 TRP pistols (1x standard AK, 2x 1/2 rail AK, 2x Full Rail AK)

I would get it I was looking at buying the half  rail but could not find it so I put a pro on order. Most likely will pick up a non railed trp if I can find one and the price is right.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the half rail trp has a bull barrel.  Is this the case for the Full rail TRP?

Full rail trp has a bull barrel, same as half rail. I sold mine very quickly for $1300 two years ago. Still have the full rail MC operator. If there was a chance to find a full rail pro (not custom order), I'd get another to have the trifecta.

One can dream.

I too have owned both the full and half railed variants. I sold the half railed to help fund a professional. I will never sell the full railed gun.

I have a half rail Operator and would trade for a full rail in a heart beat...

IMO. It's just what looks best to you, are you gonna really use those last few rail spaces? Probably not. I own a half rail because that's what I could find while looking for one.

I have a full rail TRP.  It is one of my nicest feeling pistols.  Everything is perfectly mated and functions smoothly.  As much as I like the full rail, I think half or no rail is better for carry purposes.  The full rail can snag on the draw.  Just my experience.

I sold my full rail TRP for 1650 if I remember right and did not include anything except one mag let alone a surefire. I like the looks of a full rail much better but the half rail is probably just a tad more practical and lighter. Buy want you want.

My opinion though

Just curious. What does the full rail to that the half rail wont?

Other than the little bit of weight that helps mitigate recoil it is strictly cosmetic.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their opinions. I went with the full rail.

I have a NIB Half rail and would trade it straight up for a NON railed Stainless in a heart beat. Beautiful gun but just not for me.. After buying it I just don't feel rails belong on 1911's, not for me anyway.
