THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
I shot it for the first time today at 32 yards with 2 different kinds of ammo off a bench, it shot 3 inch groups with one brand and 6 inch with another, and yes I am capable of 1 inch groups with a SA Loaded 45 at the same distance. Does anyone have a clue what ammo the comp 9mm likes.

the xdm is not a 1911. what barrel length? i shoot my xdm 40 3.8 much better than a 4.25 or an xdm 9 of either barrel length.
is it possible to shoot at a shorter distance?
i'm not claiming to be or know anything; just naming all possibilities that give me issues.

I would be VERY surprised to see a box stock model do that. You don't state what brands you did try, or even the bullet weights. For my sons we have settled on 147gr bullets, but the 124's work pretty good too. The 115's don't do so well though. The best tailored ammo we use is about 2" at 25m, which is plenty fine for what we are doing, and well within my expectations of the pistol.

I completely understand your feelings concerning accuracy of the 1911 vs. the other gun.

When I got my Browning BDM and shot it I thought, "Damn, do I ever need practice, I suck". After a box or two of ammo I got the 1911 out and after the first magazine I smiled realizing it wasn't me, it was the BDM.

The Glock M31 is a little better than the Browning but still not on par with my 1911.

My new XDM 5.25 comp though just might be close enough to make me feel pretty good. I only have a couple of boxes through it so far. Hope to put a couple different reloads through it this weekend (147 grain lead TC and 124 grn. HPs). We'll see how it goes. I like the sights, the recoil is wus perfect, the empties fall in a neat pile near my right foot and the accuracy ain't bad for factory ammo, a trigger that will take some getting used to and my old eyes and lack of practice.

I don't shoot from a bench, I shoot off hand.

Got PICs from your shooting sessions with the 5.25" XDm?

Also, don't you think 500 rounds is a better amount for
your trigger finger to "learn" how your XDm's trigger let-off works??

Just sayin'.....

I can't add much to the conversation only to say I love my XDs and XDMs.

But, what exactly is the 1761D?
I live vicariously through myself.

The 5.25 is basically a lengthened 4.5 XDm which is a combat handgun. To expect ANY combat handgun to give a 1” group using factory ammo at 35 yards is totally unrealistic.

Think of it this way, it’s like someone posting a complaint about shooting an M-16 (combat rifle) not being able to shoot sub-MOA groups with regular factory ammo…. If you know anything about shooting, you would know that is impossible….. Sorry but unless the OP post some more details that gives him more credibility, this post smells bad.....

I have an XDm 5.25 full size , it took about 200 rounds for mine to settle in and start grouping nice ....
Mine is in 9mm and I have only tried 115 gr ammo and of all the brand I've tried it likes the federal champion and UMC Remington in green /white box
Both are lower cost ammo , but honestly I have shot some pretty good groups at 25 yards.
Not 1" , but I'm also not slow firing for "bullseye" type groups ....lots of 2-4 round strings

I don't have to prove anything to be credible to you, I know what I am capable of and I know how it shot, i did not ask for your thoughts on if i'm a liar or not, just ammo choices. To assume a post smells bad shows your ignorance since you don't know me from Adam.
