THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Upgrades to the range officer would include: Harrison sights: 100 Extended ambi thumb safety: 100 SA one piece magwell main spring housing: 180 Stripple front strap:135 Maybe front cocking serrations: 100 Refinish: 80-150 So pretty much would be taking a roughly $800 1911 and adding $6-800 in upgrades. I'm looking for ideas as to whether the RO is a good starting pistol for the upgrades?? I know I could pick up a TRP for this price, but I like the idea of having a 1911 with what I want. |

i have one and gave $700 for it. it's a great starting point. most people don't like the FCS; i'm ambivalent. the rear sight would hurt if you took it to a class. the grips like on an mc operator could replace getting front stippling.
i would suggest(and i heard it here first)buy one, shoot the snot out of it for six months then reexamine your post. a lot of times i've bought guns w/the idea of doing this/that but usually leave it alone and am happy i did. my .02. ymmv. |

I already have other 1911's that I bought and shot the snot out of. I picked up a SA GI a little over 4 years ago for this. I would be swapping the grips out as well, just haven't decide on which. To be honest the front strap stippling is one of the main things I want if I go a head with this. The sight swap is must as well for me.
