Dang Armslist is trying to get me in trouble. Was browsing through and just seeing if any new revolvers had been listed. A few in my area I wouldn't mind adding to the collection, but owners want more cash than I have available or they want something in trade I don't have.

Noticed a gentleman who had listed a prelock S&W 686 4" barrel.  He only had it listed for sale but I sent him a message just to ask if he was wanting anything in trade.

Hopefully, if all goes good with the meet tomorrow I'll be able to add this to my collection. This will be by 5th revolver in less than 3 months if everything goes good. All started with a S&W 586 4" prelock, then a S&W 64-6, then a S&W 442-1, and finally a Colt Cobra.

Wish me luck, I'll provide more details if everything works out

The trade ended up happening today & everything went smoothly.

Originally when I first saw the gentleman's ad, he had listed it only for sale. After sending him and email and looking at his other listing I realized he was looking for AR parts. I offered him an 300AAC Blackout rifle I had built using an Anderson Manufacturing lower & upper, PSA 16" barrel, 12" Midwest Industries rail, BCM Mod) 300 FH, and Nikon scope. I was also able to unload a bunch of extra AR parts I had just laying around taking up space in exchange for brand new 38 Special & 357 Magnum ammunition. All told, I walked away from the deal with around 400 rounds of assorted 38 & 357, $200 cash, and a S&W 686-4. Not a bad deal in my book

It is all original, has very nice feel in my hand. Does have some wear spots here and there, but nothing a good thorough cleaning won't take care of. And of course, here are some obligatory pictures of it alongside my 586. Now to find x2 6" barrel versions....

This will be my fifth revolver in less than 2-3 months. I've never been happier with trading for classic S&W revolvers lately. Plus, everything I've traded for them is easily replaceable (ie Glock 43, built AR's).Attachment Attached File

I'm jealous.  That's exactly what I was looking for used, but on a very limited budget.  But anything I found was always over my budget, or had just been sold.  So I ended up buying a Sarsilmaz SR 38, which supposedly is a "clone" of a S&W 686.  (See my thread on this page.)
Anyway, congratulations to you!

It's a 586 no dash that was the first one to start this whole kick back off. I used to have a 6" 586-1 but sold it when I was buying my house. These aren't going anywhere

Every collection should have a 686.
I also have a -4.
Best of the run.

Damn Sarge, you did good! Revolvers can be very addicting, as you know.

Nice! I love the 686 and shoot them more than my N Frame 27.

I have a 4" no dash, and a 6"-5. The -5's were the last of the prelock guns, and the beginning of the MIM parts. My -5 686 has no MIM parts, but my 4" -5 586 has a regular trigger and an MIM hammer.

My 4" 686-4 is one of my favorite revolvers.  The only change that I made to mine was swapping grips; the rubber factory Hogues for Ahrends Retro Targets.

It is my only S&W revolver that doesn't wear factory grips.

I forgot that I swapped the factory grips on my Scandium 360J for a smaller pair of Pachmayr Compacs.

You're off to a good start OP, I am especially envious of your 568!

I honestly thought it had a trigger job until I talked to my boss at work. He's been around for longer, and advised me that our Sheriff's Office used to carry 686s until they switched to semi-autos. He had the chance to buy as many as he wanted for $200 at the time cause they were selling them to help fund their new guns. I've only been around long enough for them to sell their Glock 21s, which wasn't much less than what blue book pricing was

That they can be, but as I tell my wife at least they will only continue to go up in value as opposed as some of the other guns in my collection

Yeah the 586 is my baby. I wanted a 4" originally when I lucked into my 6" 586. I wanted to keep it, but being newly wed at the time and trying to buy a house didn't work as well for my gun collection as I would like.

At least I got the one I really wanted.

I need to start getting holsters for my revolvers, that's one item I like to have for each handgun I own. Plus, need to buy my speed loaders

Thanks, its freaking awesome. I absolutely love it, more so than my 586. But don't plan on parting with it unless something drastic occurs

Yes, love my 586 too, but I prefer the stainless guns for shooting regularly, so easy to maintain. You can go to town with lead-away patches and make it look like new with no worry. Enjoy!

Nice score!  The 4" 586/686 are the best all-round revolvers.  I'm looking for a matching 586.  I'll find one at a LGS.
