I have one, nothing like loading up eight 357 magnum rounds. I keep meaning to change out the grip but never get around to it.

Hogue has a sick G10 grip that would look wicked on an R8

I think I'm gonna get one for mine

And to answer the initial question the R8 is an awesome gun

I just got the R8 in a trade and shot it last weekend.  It is a really nice shooter.

Prolly best to take it to a kydex guy and let him build one, least till the holster market catches up.

Why not a 627? Who needs a rail on a revolver? When I see that, I think of the giant stupid lasers in the movie predator  2.

I have a 627PC, which is the same thing in SS. I prefer the steel over the aluminum. Mine has a terrific trigger and is very accurate.

Yeah, if your going to shoot it a lot go with a 627,  The steel frame really helps soak up the recoil.  If your going to carry it more than shooting then the R8 is nice.

Both is always an option.  627 PC top, and a TRR8 bottom, MOOONCLIP RULE!

As for holsters any N-frame holster for a 5 inch barrel length should work assuming you don't have anything hanging on the rail.  I use the same Blade Tech holster for my 625, 627, and TRR8

Yep, I eventually sold mine because it was so inconvenient, wouldn't fit in any holsters or bedside lock boxes (kids).

I don't understand this comment.  Most any N-frame 5-inch holster should work with the R8.

Never fired a R8.  They do look cool.  I do have two 627s and a few 27s and they are the best.  My two 627s (middle left, bottom right):

Have had mine for a few years. No complaints.  Very accurate at 50 yards and great trigger.
Only down side would be the cost. But still my favorite revolver.

I have an R8, like it a lot. My only problem was some light primer strikes. Tightening up the tension screw solved that. I did not like the V notch rear sight, so replaced it with a square notch. S&W told me to put in the .196 high sight blade, but for me is way too tall for original front sight. Just fyi if you like a square notch

I agree that the 27 and 627 are great guns to have in .357 magnum. But, if someone wants a rail that's great too. Laser sights and rail mounted lights have come a long way since Predator 2 and are much, much smaller. Like comparing a Commodor desk top computer to the latest state of the art Dell PCs of today.

Off topic, but, are those Micarta grips? They're some great looking grips.

Not micarta.  They are ebony, made by Culina Grips.  Revolver is a 610.  Here is an older photo, I'll see if I can get you a better detail shot.

Some of them have a very smooth trigger. Pretty light weight gun also scandium frame. Mounting a red dot on the top rail doesn't work very well, does not co witness so it can be difficult to find the dot. The standard sights actually work better. The bottom rail is awkward to use a light on, too far forward and doesn't balance well. Definitely looks very tacticool though.
