I just picked up a heritage. Most things I found around the interwebs say it's decent. Anyone here have one?

I have the Ruger Blackhawk .45acp/LC Convertible, at the time I wasn't really into SA cowboy guns, just wanted to get back in to large caliber revolvers but another S&W N frame was too pricey.

Having a revolver that shoots .45acp is cheap shooting, and with the Blackhawk no need to mess with moonclips. I'm also not seeing any difference in accuracy between .45acp & light cowboy .45LC loads @ 25 yards.

But I'm finding that I'm shooting more .45LC than I thought, it's a pricier round but even though it's supposed to be a lighter load than .44mag a good hot .45LC will get the job done. The HSM 'bear loads' get the job done, and I've no doubt a large frame Blackhawk could eat these all day with no issues.

I'm also surprised just how good out of the box that Ruger SA trigger is, my last 'big' S&W was an 80's production model 29, probably the best revolver trigger I've ever had after a few years of use, and none of the new S&Ws were as good. The Ruger was.

If not a Colt get the Uberti EL PATRON in stainless, fun to shoot & easy to clean. Operates just like the colts.

I had a 3Rd Generation Colt and it had nothing on my Uberti's, rough, gritty feeling internals and a super heavy mainspring. I sold it and got the price of 3 or 4 new Uberti's.  Win, win!

I've had a few colt single actions through the years, 357, 44 special and 45 Colt. None of them hit where they looked for the loads I wanted to use. I had a second generation 45 that had been worked over by a home trigger smith to the point where it would go off just trying to get a finger in the trigger guard. A used trigger and hammer cost damned near as much as a new Blackhawk so I just bought the Ruger and sold the Colt and pocketed the rest. I'll admit there is nothing like the sound of a SAA when you cock the hammer back but I like adjustable sights and hitting what I aim at. I still have a few springs, a five and a half inch 45 barrel and other assorted parts for the Colts but I'll likely never buy another one.

Few years ago there was a dealer on Gunbroker selling Uberti Hombres for $250 (45 Colt and 357 mag). I've been kicking myself for not buying 2 in each caliber. Only bought 1 in 357. I like it has the the 4 clicks that spell C-O-L-T that the Rugers lack.

Goes well with my 357mag Rossi:

Hunt around the usual gun boards, maybe you'll get lucky and find something that works for you.

Amen to that. I own two, 44 Mag and 44 Special.  Most accurate handguns I've ever owned outside a T/C.

A single action pistol?   In the revolver forum?   OK.   1911 or Browning HP35.
