This is a S&W Model 360J-

(These photos are not mine. I found them in a Google Image search.)

The 360J is a Scandium J-frame. While the 360 suggests that this is a .357mag, the 360J is a .38spl based on the 360. The cylinders were originally stainless, but newer examples are Melonite.

These were ordered from S&W to serve as police guns in Japan, but a few here and there have been released for sale on the US market. The photo above is an example of one sold on the US market. I think the owner of that gun removed the lock and replaced the front sight. Notice that there's a serial number on the side of the frame. There isn't one on the bottom of the grip frame, but the usual spot inside the crane is marked with the serial number and 360J.

This is what a correct example looks like-

The biggest differences are the lanyard loop and the grips. The models sold on the US market still have a hole for the lanyard loop, but it's covered by the longer grips.

I think I have the lanyard loop figured out, but I still need the grips. I don't know who makes those, and I have no idea where I can get some.

Any suggestions?

Yes. They were my lead on the lanyard loop. It's not something they typically have available, but the rep said they happened to have one.

She said the grips are made by a third party, and they don't keep them on hand. She said she didn't know who the manufacturer was, but I didn't get the impression she'd tell me if she did.

I tried calling Hogue, but all of the rubber grips they make use a screw that goes in through the bottom.

I haven't tried Pachmayr yet, but I'm not sure if S&W has ever used them as an OEM.
