Early 60's Colt Detective Special. Decided I'm going to carry it, just need to track down a good pocket holster and put the Tyler T grip back on.

I just can't carry my '59 DS for fear of putting wear on it. I have a model 60-7 with a bobbed hammer and a 649-1 that I put in my rotation though.

Agree with this statement. Mine is a reblue, so I'm not too concerned. If it was original, I'd be in the same boat as you.

I don't know, I've never understood what good a gun that just sits is.  You can always make a museum piece out of it if you wear it out........  Mine is actually doing just that because it needs the timing fixed and I'd rather be carrying it.  It was my first carry gun.  It was made in 1966.

I understand the sentiment, but they ain't making any new Colt DA/SA revolvers and likely never will again, especially to the skilled hand fit build standards of a bygone era. So it's hard for me to blame a guy for wanting to keep a nice original one, well, nice and original.

There are plenty of new revolvers with that fit the bill nicely and they are made everyday. Maybe with MIM and other cost cutting measures but they still work and you won't feel bad about banging them around. I must admit that I throw my 629-4 on my hip while hiking even though I realize S&W will never make 629s quite of that quality again.

Beautiful DS BTW.

This 1928 Colt Police Positive in .38 special is my "outdoors" revolver. It don't look like very much but it's tight and it's very accurate.

I killed a groundhog with it just the other day.

Nice, I passed up on a mid-late 80's Bulldog recently. It was pretty cheap, but pretty beat, and I have mixed feelings on passing it up but it's water under the bridge now.

These things are real thumpers, I shoot anything from 200gr to 250gr bullets in it. I can get 900fps out of 200gr coated/cast bullets and 800fps+ out of 245gr hpswc coated/cast bullets.

You're making me hurt real bad. The pawn shop only asked $160 for it, the lowest they would go was $150. Still passed it up, this was only a month or two back. I read mixed reviews on them and it was pretty damn well beat, still should have shelled out the bucks.

I recently bought an older hi power off a retired man. He told me that he purchased so many guns a year while he was still drawing a salary, some that he bought for shooting and practical use, and some that be bought as investments, or safe queens, depending on how you look at it.

Now he's slowly selling his collection to subsidize retirement. I thought it was genius.

My hi power was born in '82, I bought it practically BNIB. He did well, to say the least.

I carry a S&W 19-5 in the woods. Not pinned and recessed, so I'm not scared of sweating on it.

I don't carry them, but how about these Rossi Interarms revolvers.

Rossi Interarms marked 5 shot .38 Special

Rossi Interarms marked 6 shot .357 Mag

I also have a Walther PPK/s marked Interarms .380 caliber.  IIRC......Interarms went out of business in the early 1990s.

Almost a Fitz special there.  Just bob the hammer and cut away the trigger guard and there you have it.  I've seen Fitz's that actually had no barrel at all.  Just the forcing cone with the barrel cut off flush with the frame.

How about an old school cop gun.

This is a pinned and recessed S&W 2.5" Model 19 .357

Back in the day, this was what the gun savvy detectives carried, as well as what was considered the perfect off duty piece.

Now guns like this have gone the way of lead filled Saps, and powdered lead filled gloves for cop work.

A mix of old and new.

Here is an old 29-2 .44 magnum, cut to 5"s and customized to my specs, along with a first run Ruger Redhawk .44 mag.

Two Great guns for an outdoorsman.

And three examples of Classic .44 magnums.

First is a late 1950s Rugger Flattop .44, in an extremely rare 7.5" barrel length
Followed by a 1970s era Model 29-2 with a 6.5" barrel, which is by far my favorite barrel length for hunting.
Lastly, another 1970s era Model 29-2 with a 4" barrel that is perfect for packing on the hip.

I think these would make Elmer Keith smile.
