I'm having a hard time finding out the approximate weight of a model 10 or really any k frame with a 2"barrel. I'm trying to decide between a used k frame or just picking up a new 686+ with 2.5" barrel. I plan on using it for cc and open carry if I ever feel the need.  Does anybody have experience with both revolvers that can chime in. I already carry a jframe but I like the idea of 1 more bullet for a little more weight but I'm doing the same with the 686. 1 more bullet for x amount of weight. I know the 686+ is about 2lbs and that's pretty heavy but no more than the 1911 I used to carry. Any. Help would be greatly appriciated.

The Model 10 will be around 32.5oz.

A 686 will be around 40.5oz

The 686+ will be around 41oz.

A heavy barrel 4-inch model 10 only weights 36 oz,  A two inch pencil barrel on that frame is going to probably bring that just under 30oz.  A steel framed J-frame (M36) weighs roughly 20oz

The 686 Plus is lighter than the 686 for the same barrel length, not by much but lighter.  They're identical except the 686 Plus has an extra hole in its cylinder.  686 Plus 2.5-inch is 34.1oz and the 686 Regular
is 34.7oz

Threw some rounds on the scale.  Using 158gr HP 357 mags and assuming the above numbers are correct from S&W's web sight then loaded both guns would be exactly the same weight.  6rds weighed 3.5oz and 7rds weighed 4.1 oz.  For a total loaded weight of either 686 or 686 plus with 2.5 in barrel at 38.2oz.

The Model 19 was produced in blued carbon steel or nickel-plated steel with wood or rubber combat grips, an adjustable rear sight, semi-target hammer (wide hammer spur with good checkering), serrated combat-type trigger, and was available in 2.5" (3" particular to the Model 66 being more rare), 4", or 6-inch barrel lengths. The weights are 30.5 ounces, 36 ounces, and 39 ounces, respectively. The 2.5- and 3-inch barrel versions

There is not a tremendous supply of decent used short barrel K frames in my area . I would expect other areas are somewhat similar.

Although I am a tried and true S&W guy the op should keep a eye out during his search for Colt Detective special or Colt Commandoes.
Both are rather hard to find but are well worth looking at

Had a 2 inch M64.   That was the 2 incher that I could hit with.   Not too bad when CCW.

Currently use a 4 inch M12-3 blued.   18.5 oz and hardly notice weight when carrying.    Much easier to shoot with 4 incher.   Chronoed Federal 38 Special 158 gr +p SWCHP at 905 fps.

With some looking, you should be able to find a 2 inch K frame.   Best IMHO would be the M15.   Buffalo Bore 158 gr +P with the steel frame.

I run a two inch model 15. For group size and accuracy it simply outperforms every modern combat auto I have shot which is a bunch in the last 30 years. Two inch or less 25 yard groups are doable with it.
I can do better with a four inch but not by much. I can run the 48 rounds ppc course ( 48 shots - with 24 of those at 25 yards ) and shoot in the low 270's out of 280
With the two inch 15. Best ever score with an auto was high 260's
