I've been buying (and selling ) 686's since the 1980's, got my first one when I was on active duty in the US Army

I've had a bunch of 4" and 6"

When I was younger, I'd sell them to pay for things like a new transmission for my truck.

I've always loved the 686

I've always wanted a 5", and I like the older dash 4 era guns.

I sent this off to Andy Horvath to have it cut from 6" to 5", have a Weigand front sight base, and Dawson .100" fiber optic front sight installed.
I also had him convert it from 6 to 7 shot.

Before:

6" 6 shot 686-4

After

This is exactly what I wanted
Very happy

Looks very nice.  My brother did the same thing w/ a Taurus, but his didn't turn out as well.

Looks really nice, but I am not chopping of an inch from my 686. The thing just balances out perfectly for me.

You can not deny the craftsmanship of your conversion

Damn, that came out really nice. Looks factory.

That is an improvement.

I have a 686 since 30 years and the stainless front sight with red insert does no longer agree with my eyes. I can either give the gun to one of my kids or invest into another front sight like that.

Very nice - hate the balance of the full underlug on 6" or more barrel. It looks better than factory.

I have a 6" with the power port.  I was thinking of having this done as the port collects a lot of lead.  Can I ask how much that cost?

And wait, your 6 shooter has an extra hole in the cylinder, what happened there?

Your inbox is full but I want to thank you for the info.  I want to do exactly what you did with the barrel.

I haven't cut a 686, but I did cut a 6" 617 to 5". It took off a few oz. and now matches the weight and balance of my 627PC.

thanks for the " heads up "

I cleaned up my IM inbox

I've always liked 5" revolvers

I had a 625 ( 45ACP moonclip) that was wonderful

I recently got a 5.5" 44SBH that I like too

I swear by my 686 - and that front sight is exactly what mine needs. What a great looking set up.

I have a 686+ like yours with a 6.5" barrel.  It's the most accurate handgun I own.  I will never part with it.
