I wonder why they are using revolvers vs autos?  There has to be some reason...

If "power" is really the reason, a Glock 20 would be a far superior choice.

The French are using this museum piece revolver because it is the best choice for their purposes, or because their socialist government prioritizes welfare handouts and foreign immigration over security and law enforcement?

BS 357 Magnum loaded to Max SAAMI pressure is every bit the ballistic equal to 10mm Auto loaded to Max SAAMI pressure.

A little bit of column A and a little bit of column B.

The French Military and LE for the most part are a very professional, well trained, and experienced force that the politicians shit on.

GIGN can get top gear but a lot of them stick with the MR-73 because it does work and works well.

The largest single pistol order since WWII was done by France and that was for the Sig Pro SP 2022 in 9mm. As a matter of fact, the 2022 is what it is due to the French contract requirements. Over 250,000 pistols were ordered.

If France didn't place the order. The Sig Pro line was going to die off. The Sig P250 was originally intended to be the replacement for the Sig Pro.

French contract SP 2022. Markings mean "Property of the State".

The older firearms are being passed down to smaller municipal police all across France and her territories.

I think he might mean because you'd have more capacity with the G20.  Which is a valid point.

G20 certainly brings the capacity but the "power" made me think ballistics of the two cartridges.  The 357 Mag and 10mm Auto are ballistically so similar the terrorist receiving it could not tell the difference.

Right, they're equal in power (essentially), but the G20 holds 15+1 and obviously has a faster reload.

I am looking for an objective reason for why they would use a revolver over an auto because there really isn't any reason to unless its simply what they had available.

Because it is either that or the SP2022 in 9mm. They want a more powerful cartridge. The 10mm Glock would be a waste of resources when they have a shit ton of MR-73s, MR-88s, and Ruger Security Sixes in inventory along with a ton of .357 Magnum ammunition.

Higher end guys like GIGN could get Glock 20s but even they see it as a waste of time and resources.

Right, so logistics is the answer.  That's what I figured, since that's really the only explanation.  If they are using FMJ in the 357 then it will have no more terminal effect over the 9mm.  Do you know what type of ammo they use?
