I'm not sure if this is the same group you're speaking of but the officers in this video sure looks like a cluster fuck.

GIGN has been very successful over the years. They know what their revolvers can do and don't care about anyone on the internet's opinion.

Now would be a great time to post a pic of the french SF with the silenced Ruger revolver with tripod and 16" barrel.

I don't love the computer, it is just a tool for my job. I love guns and shooting and set high standards for myself. |

Great revolvers and the .357 magnum is still quite effective on unarmored two legged vermin. If the guy is proficient with his weapon who cares what he carries- I'm just glad they killed the bad guys.

One of the best groups in the world killing baddies with MR-73s in .357 Magnum goodness.
|

Dude, it is a .357 magnum, and they don't shoot .38's from it. IIRC some of their final testing is deliberately getting shot with a .357 in their armored chest and continuing a mission successfully. we just pepper spray our guys here and then have them beat and cuff a guy, there they get shot and keep going. granted they are French so they will sit still and get flanked...

Sooooooo, the big question is, are the MR 73's any good? I thought it looked a lot like a Smith, but wasn't sure. I don't think I've ever seen one of these before now.

That looks like (yea.. from that blurry photo) it could be a Beretta M12. Gonna be kinda hard to get that here. Some fuddies frown on full auto stuff getting imported for free peoples' use.

So the french actually make a decent weapon. I didn't realize that. Something of a mixed bag. Their 1886 Lebel lead the way but quickly was passed up. They tried to gain an edge again on the eve of WW1 with a semiautio rifle, but the war interviened. They were developing a semiauto in the post WW1 years more or less at the same pace as the US, but failed to commit to what they had, waiting for new design developments, and ended up going to war with a bolt gun while the US fielded a Garand. They could have gone to war with something similar to the MAS 49 semi rifle, but then the Germans would have just ended up with them in any case. They were not really leading the way post 1888. Their research on the eve of WW1 and between the wars may have been some of the most advanced, but it failed to produce. Now that said, the MAS 36 is a fine strong bolt action and the MAS 49/56 was a good match for the Garand / M14 developments. |

While the Steyr AUG was adopted in 1977, the French FAMAS was adopted a year later in 78'. The French were testing the FAMAS design as early as 1967. Those were the first two successful Bullpup designs to be adopted.
