S&W 28-2 6" Highway Patrolman .357 Magnum

$400 just the gun no box but the stocks appear to be original and there isn't one speck of rust anywhere on the gun. Good deal?

I'd gladly see you make a quick profit by flipping it to me for $440...

That is a great deal on your S&W!

This.  I paid more for my 28-2 three years ago.  Mine isn't in quite as good shape, either.

He had it for $600 and I offered $400 and he said $450 and I said I can only do $400 today and he was like, 'where do you want to meet?'

I did not expect him to budge at all and I would have paid $600 since pre lock smiths around here command a premium. Just wish it had a box. I checked the serial and its a 1968-69 build. Not a speck of rust.

More pics

I think that you need to send it to me for further evaluation... I will send you the $400 plus shipping as a security deposit while I evaluate it. (But the evaluation could take years).

Pinned and recessed. Yeah , you are a thief.

$400 would be the average for that gun with beat up grips and lots of bluing wear

Just not a Smith model one sees much .

Kind of a club , not my idea of a carry gun , but one of the very best range guns S&W ever made .

Great Deal , Jelly I am

You scored!  Go buy yourself a lottery ticket.

Especially since the pistol is pinned and recessed.

If the pistol had a 5" barrel, it would've been perfect.

Great score .Last month I scored on a S&W model 10 with the 4" bull barrel . Like yours it looked unfired . Paid a whopping 200 bucks for it .

Last February I picked up this for $500 at a little hole in the wall pawn shop in Bellingham, WA...

Then I had it bead blasted and added grips:

And then I traded it for a FUCKING AR15 ARGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! SO STUPID!!!

I regret it every day. Honestly, I should not have eben bead blasted it. It had the the box, paperwork and everything. It was a 686-3 4" and it was perfect.

Not too bad. That's too much barrel for me.

I think the prices on some classic Smiths have gone ludicrous. Deals are out there if you keep your eyes open.

Stolen.  If the seller didn't steal it, you stole it from him.

I think you did well. I'm picking up a refinished pre-27 3.5 inch gun with some cosmetic issues and I got into it for a bit under $500. I just couldn't pass on the 3.5 incher.

I'm new to the revolver scene, but I'd have snatched that up in a heartbeat for $400. Nice revolver, don't dick it up and trade it off like you did the 686.

After looking at your pics again.  Man it looks like it's never been fired.  Or it's been refinished.

The 6" looks pretty good on an N frame.  Without the lug.

It had been fired. I scrubbed it pretty good pre photos but it wasn't much at all. It's the original finish. It has a small bit of bluing wear on the right side tip near the muzzle. The guy I got it from said 'I am sorry it is so filthy'. I said hey 'no problems at all' knowing that it was shot very little. The lockup and tightness of the entire gun feels like it was made yesterday.

You might want to check the date of production via the serial number. See the weird "lazy" ampersand between the Smith and Wesson on the barrel? That indicates a pretty early model (they straightened it up & made it taller later on into the present). It might be worth even more than you think. Then again I could be full of it, but what could it hurt?

Yeah, realized I'm not a fan of .357 N frames, just too large and heavy when K/L frames exist. Somehow though the 6 inch barrel makes it ok again. And any flavor of 27 as they're neat as hell.

I keep wondering if I someday get a 1917 in .45 if I'd feel the same way.  I would love to have a WWII type smith.  Like a victory or 1917.  And not sure.  It's probably a pipe dream but I'm thinking about selling something off to fund one.  My Grandpa died in WWII and it's hard not to want those types of guns.  You know?
