Was looking for a big bore revolver and settled on the new Ruger Blackhawk in .41 Mag.  This one is blue and with the 6.5 inch bbl.
Can't wait to get it from Buds.  It already shipped.  Damn good price at Buds.

Anybody shooting .41 Mag?

I had a Blackhawk, (4 5'8"), back in the day.  Sold it to finance a M57.  Traded it off, and since I still had dies and components, I bought a model 58.

Great cartridge, though I admit most of today's offerings kick just a bit too much for the M58.

Shouldn't be a problem  in your Blackhawk, however.

I mostly shoot 220 grain cast bullets over 8 grains of Unique these days, (when I do get too shoot).  That still does almost 1000 FPS.  Not very light for a light load, I admit.

Nice!  I hope you reload or have deep pockets.  Factory ammo is ridiculously expensive.

I've been thinking about trying 41 mag.

Friend of mine offered to let me borrow his 41 blackhawk

I'm thinking by the time I buy dies, dillon conversion kit, brass, and bullets, I'll need to invest about $150

been looking at buds too, they have a good price on the blackhawk 41

I'm a big fan of the .357magnum, and 44, would be fun to split the difference.

You could say this about most revolver ammo outside of 38/357 and 44 Mag.      45 Colt is high, as is 44 Special,  44/40 , 38/40 etc etc ---  reloading is almost mandatory

Good flat shooting caliber with a punch.

Montana gas checked bullets are very good in my Model 57.  Out in the woods I like the 260gr. with H110.

Did not have the coin for a 'real' gun, so I picked up this one a few years ago. I have fired it approximately 1500 times since then. Most recently about 2 weeks ago. Works great. I let a co-worker (ex NJ Sheriff for 25 years) fire it and he carried on about how the trigger is better than any of his S&W's. Now I know that is crazy talk.....but it does shoot very nice. I reload and love it. I like 8.5 gr. Unique under a lead SWC 215 Missouri Bullet for a good 'trooper' load. Makes a pretty hole in cardboard and knocks the cowboy targets down nicely.

Wife even pretended to follow my reasoning on why I bought the gun. See, my neighbor was getting rid of some stuff and gave me 100 brand new shells and another 100 used ones.....so obviously, I had to buy the gun that went with the brass....right?

Guy on a local board is selling a custom 58.  I have always liked the idea of a .41

First cartridge I reloaded was for my Uncles 57 8.375" in .41 Mag.  Guess that started me on my favorite cartridge.  Have owned half dozen Smiths 57, 58s, 657s over the span.  Got three different bullet molds that I also cast for (195 SWC, 205 SWC and 255 WFN which actually weigh 270gr straight wheel weights).

Smith 58 4",Ruger Blackhawk 6.5", TC Contender 14" and Marlin 1894S 20"

Lee 195s and Ranch Dog 255s

even had a Lee Classic Handloader kit that I keep in my rucksack in Germany in the late 80s.  Would deploy somewhere and in my down time would tap out .41 mags for the 58 I had over there at the time.

Good stuff here..sort of a cult following.  The ammo is not that expensive, frankly.  Depends on what you compare to.

Last couple of times Rem and Buffalo Bore were the same as .44 Mag and .45 Colt per round.  I haven't bought any .41 Mag factory ammo since the mid 90s.  Average about 500 rds a year even when deployed all reloads.

Sounds like you ordered the same Blackhawk I have. You'll love it.

The first .41 I fired was a S&W mountain gun, been trying to find a reasonably priced one ever since.

I really like my Blackhawk, it's a 6.5" .41 mag also. I enjoy reloading for that particular caliber.
If you reload, H110 and 255 grain Cast Performance gas check bullets are a LOT of fun.

I no longer own a .41. If you reload, send me an IM and I'll send you some brass to load, just for being a friend of notrega's.

I too recently bought a 6.5" Blackhawk .41 and it shoots great, but pitch the awful plastic grips and buy some wood ones...trust me on this.  I've got Starline brass but bullets are still on the way, but in the meantime I found the 50rd boxes of Remington 210gr JHP for $32/50 online, they averaged 1400 fps from the 6.5" and grouped almost one ragged hole at 10yds.

Was going to get it through Buds, but bought it through KYGUNCO (I'm about 1hr away from each) since it was only a few bucks more and less traffic lights :)

10mm is hardly the equivalent of a .41 Magnum, no matter how bad you might want it to be.

Unless you're loading the .41 hot or running a longer barrel, warm 10mm loads are pretty darn close.

No they're not identical, but they're not all that much different.

So hot 10mm rounds equal slow .41 Mag rounds, so they're identical. Hell, by that same logic, the 9mm is the same as the .357 Magnum, then.

Reading is not your forte, is it...

I said they were similar, not identical, and the original post was somewhat of a joke that you took too seriously.

But...   Can you load a 250+ grain bullet in your 10mm.

I know the 41 is a great round but I have been heavy with 357 and 44Mag so I always resisted getting any . Considering the 41 in that lever Marlin kind of lights me up . I suspect it would very nearly have the power of the 44 but with a flatter trajectory . I don't believe there are many around and have not seen much that was even passible from Remington .

.41 mag goodness

Borrowed this from a friend
traded some brass, bought a dieset and some 215grSWC hardcast

5gr of titegroup is a nice mild load.

20.5gr H-110 was a bit louder

with my old 19-4

Yeah..was away from the thread for a while.  I got it from Buds.  Decided after the first go round that I needed bigger and more comfy grips.  Purists don't approve of the Hogue grips, but I don't care.  It is much easier to shoot now.

I own three .41 Magnums, two 4" M57's and one 4 5/8" Blackhawk. I bought a bunch of brass in the mid-90's and have been reloading it ever since. I use light loads almost exclusively.

215 grain lead SWC's.
7.0 grains of WW-231 or,
15.5 grains of IMR-4227.
Winchester standard large pistol primers.
Remington brass.

These loads run 950 to 970 fps over my chronograph at 15 feet. They're pleasant to shoot all day long and accurate enough for self-defense at any reasonable distance. A 215 grain Keith style bullet traveling at 950 fps is plenty fast for self-defense. This is a virtually identical load to the original "police" load developed in the early 1960's.

Do not reduce the 15.5 grain IMR-4227 load, it's a slow burning powder and that is an absolute minimum powder charge.

With those grips, 21 grains of H110 under a 255 grain gas check bullet would be a hoot! It's not quite as much fun with stock grips, but still fun.

As I recall, we clocked it in the neighborhood 1300 fps out of my 6.5" barrel.

The only ones I've found that I like are the Cast Performance. Unfortunately, they ain't cheap.
I Like the Sierra 210 JHC for run of the mill hot loads.
