Y'all, one of my Uberti open tops colt replicas, an 1860 conversion, has a very tight wedge that has to be driven out with a wooden dowel...is this normal?

Yes. I have an old (1960's) Centennial Arms version does same eventually it will be somewhat loser. Keep shooting and you'll appreciate a tight barrel on the frame.

forgot to take an opportunity to post a pic

I have a light brass hammer in my blackpowder kit for driving the wedge out.  It's normal.  Makes you wonder how we fought the civil war with weapons like this, as if they aren't slow enough to reload.

That photo is making me want to go out and buy one.

I bought a brass-framed one, and regretted it. I still have all the goodies, somewhere in my garage.

I carried it for many miles in the woods, before I got too old for that sort of thing.
