I stumbled upon a 586 no dash  6 inch nickel . in great shape with the box original grips are missing . I have been looking for a 4 inch gun and am tempted

Do not give into the temptation and hold out for a 581 or 681. The gun S&W should never have stopped making as far as revolvers go. Oh, BTW they have four inch barrels.

Some say the nickel adds value. Some say it's less than blued value. I believe the latter.

Around here, a dealer would probably ask $600 for it. It would probably sell for $550, IMO.

Depends on the buyer too --- nickel for me is highly desirable --- i would entertain 600-650 on that thing, if in good shape  ---  any flakes would be a no-go and would reduce the price a bunch though

agreed depending on the buyer and the condition 450-500 ish.

https://firearmsid.com/Recalls/FA_Recalls%205.htm#SMITH. Look for an "M" on the frame.  The 586 no dash was the subject of a factory recall due to the hammer nose bushing tying the revolver up.

No M . I am not a nickel fan and watch for a 4 inch . Just something I stumbled across
