Life is Good

I just picked up another 686

used, very clean, timing, end-shake, crown, etc., look prefect
no flame cutting.
Looks like it's brand new.

Came with original box and papers.

Can anyone tell me when it was made ?

Guessing early 1990's
firing pin on the hammer
drilled and tapped under new style sight
6 shot

op's 686 is awesome for target shooting and hunting  they are great.

the full lug sucks for off hand standing and 357 is greater than 45 acp   so the 4" mountain gun 686 7 shot is king

it really depends on end use the 4" is very versitile and my personal favorite  but I shoot alot of steel ...The 6" is better at target and hunting game.esp past 50 meters.

if hunting the extra velocity you get from the 6" is invaluable.

I happen to favor the M686 -3inch and or the  GP100 3inch

I use to Belly Carry the 3inch snub and use the FBI load because I could shoot faster Bill drills and was more accurate.

I have / had 4inch S&W M13,M19  and a M686-4 and a couple 6inchers

Im just a little faster with the  3inch Barrel.

Now if you want to have lots of recoil in a gun fight ?  The 4inch and 6inch  barrels will help  increase the velocity of the so called famous 357magun 125gr SJHP

OP that S&W M686 looks as if it has a 6inch tube. CONGRATS

I have several 686's in both 4" and 6" . I find the 6" guns much easier to shoot .

I will never trade my 4" 686 7 shot, never, it is the best wheel gun I have ever shot.

yes, it's a 6 inch barrel

dash 4

the dash-4 is desirable because it's old enough to not have MIM parts and the hillary hole, but new enough to be drilled/tapped under the rear sight for a scaope mount.

Only thing better is  629.
I have the twin brother of your 6" 686-4. Best .357 wheel gun ever made.

I have a -4 4".
I'd like to get a 6" and a 2.5" 686.
I had a 3" CS 686 and traded it off for a damn GSG .22 carbine when they came out.
Still makes me want to puke.

I've had 3 29/629's and I've always like the L-frames better
