[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Looking for top shelf refinish for pre-27 smith

Like the title says. I'm looking for a shop to do a refinish on a blued pre-27 smith that is in rough shape. I've looked at Turnbull and Bowen, looking for others that will not detract from value of the gun.

If you don't want to hurt the value leave it alone.

If you want a good looking shooter send it to Bowen or back to Smith.

I think S&W now has a cut off date for revolvers and pistols they`ll work on. If it`s made before a certain date they will no accept it for repair and/or refinishing.

Check the S&W web site and IIRC its listed there.

I am looking for a shooter, but I would also like to preserve the gun. As of now it's quite rough:

Bowen sounds like maybe my best option now, as they will also do action work on smiths and I'd like to get it checked out as well as cleaned up.

Bowen sounds good, but Logan in Florida is also a great shop, as is Cogan...there will always be a great deal of money in the details, and S&W will not reblue a gun from that time frame.

Top shelf? Fords.

As already said S&W will not do any work on pre model marked revolvers.

Turnbull Restoration is whom *I* would turn to. I've seen their work firsthand & they're amazing in quality, IMO.
