I have a chance to buy a Nib colt python nickel 8 inch for $2200 still had the safety tags around the trigger guard. Do you all think this is a pretty good price I am going on monday to look at them.

I'm no expert on Pythons but that seems a little high from what I have been seeing around the net.  If it is truely NIB and unfired, you don't see to many of them advertised.

Yeah the new Nib part is what makes me think it may be worth a premium. Does the 8 inch detract from the value?

8" Nickel was only made for one year, pretty low numbers +/- 10,000.

If you are buying one to collect that is a good choice, value is subjective. It is worth what you will pay for it.

We're beating the Python value threads to death here lately -- but a NIB 8" blue model went for $3700 on Auction Arms  -- without box and with a few rounds down the pipe, they're worth $2500   --- we had a thread about a scratched up 6" stainless one not long ago that went for $2700 - no box, and on and on and on

8" is a desirable feature for a target pistol

If you dont buy it for $2200 , somebody else will

Target or Hunter?

I've never seen a nickel Target.

IMO the Python Target is the pinnacle of revolver luxury.  I would probably bite at $2200 for a NIB.

Did you buy it yet?

Go in tomorrow when I get off work the manager is going to put it on gun broker if I don't buy it.

Shameless tag for the outcome.

I had to pass the box was heavily worn I do think it was unfired but it looks like they spun the cylinder a lot. It had a ring around the cylinder if that would not have been there I would have gotten it. It was a 8 inch stainless made in 1985 not a nickel gun.

Damn I'd have snagged it for that price even in that condition.

No box  stainless for 2700-- --  that NIB 8"er will fetch a few bucks on Gunbroker  - guessing it will go over 3k pretty easy judging from other auctions

gunbroker 6" Python

Heck yeah !

For that price, thats the type of deal i would have taken a day off work and driven up to Mizzou to get  myself !

I bought this Royal blue one below  NIB and it was the coolest feeling in the world to fire the first cylinderful through it  --  i just told myself i was going to keep it long term and didnt give a flip about losing any value ---  kind of like a new car, they can't stay new long

That said, -- i might have a tougher time doing that in today's price climate -- this one was $1800 in 2009 ---  NIB ones go for  bit more than that now

OTOH, the 1911 crowd has no qualms about buying 3 and 4 thousand dollar Ed Brown and Nighthawk products and then shooting the piss out of them,   but you bought that one right, and at a price some sell for with no box and obvious turn lines, etc. - so you could go either way

congrats. Are you going to shoot it?

The up side is it looks like I will double my money on on gun broker with them. I think I will try and find one in used condition so I can shoot the hell out of it and not have to worry about it.

You got a good deal, but like you say it's better to have a python you can shoot.
IMO the 8" is a bit long to be fun to shoot, I prefer the 6" barrel.
