THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
Found a S&W mod 15 38 spl at a local shop and just can't decide to buy or not. It has a 2" brl and S&W rosewood oversize grips on it,adj sights jewel trigger and hammer. But is has the blue on the cylinder and part of the frame from holster wear. It looks like it was just finely polished off over time. He is asking $295 and I know the price is good but the bluing turns me off a bit.
What to do?

Well, I put it in the herd.

recently picked one up in the same price range- these snubbies were carried a lot but fired little as a general rule. don't let the finish scare you, it will be an accurate reliable gun.

The model 15's are great revolvers. I don't mind the wear to the bluing at all. However, I am not a fan of "jeweling" hammers and triggers, I would probably buff that back off. If it was mine, I would replace those grips with either Magnas (that it originally came with) or some sort of compact grip. I do like those grips, but would use them on a 4" or 6" K frame. I made a pair of grips for my 2 1/2" model 66, still a little clunky but the general size and shape of a "compact" grip.

The jeweling and the grips really turn me off on that one. The blueing wear just makes it a good shooter. IMO that is a $200 gun. It seems like it is almost impossible to find one for under $300 these days though.

See if he'll go $260 for the above reasons.

$250 and he can keep the grips.
