Wow. A Bird's Head Remington 1858 with a short barrel?   Is that a custom made gun, or is such a thing actually sold somewhere?

picture thread - my dad shooting my Pietta 1858
http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/cc457/pukindog1/rangepics/R168.jpg

That was a custom job. I have actually seen a few of them done, usually by the owners themselves.

If I knew a little more about gun smithing I would be very tempted to try that.  I don't know why, but that really grabs my attention.

Sometime in the past year or so, that exact same project was written about in detail.  You don't need any real gunsmithing experience to do a job like that.  If you aren't experienced, take your time, don't rush, get online and ASK QUESTIONS when you aren't sure about something and enjoy the project.  Even though it may not be perfect when you are done with it, it will be something you will take a lot of pride in because you did it yourself.

Started life as a USFA Rodeo.  Had the horrid matte finish removed, Gary Reeder dis the CCH, engravind, gold inlay and fire blued screws.
Joe Perkins of Outlaw Grips made the grips...same as used in 3:10 to Yuma.

Wow!!!  I can't believe that started as a Rodeo!!!  That looks awesome!

Man, I want one of those SO BAD!!!  Ruger made far too few of those SBHHBs in .45...

If they brought it back and offered it in a dual cylinder convertible .45 Colt/acp format it would be impossible for me to get to the gun store to place an order fast enough.

Damn. I finally got around to checking out his site to order some grips and found he doesn't make them for the Bisley! Does anyone else have a grip maker recommendation for a set of salted maple grips for a Bisley grip frame?

While not really a single action, it is related:

Picked her up yesterday, Colt M1877 Lightning in 38 LC, 3.5" bbl, no ejector rod (storekeeper's version), finish is about 85-90$, none missing but little black spots here and there. Remarkable shape for being made in 1891. Not as nice as her younger cousin (SAA made in 1903 in 100% condition)

Gun Counter Nazi ran the gamut from telling me I needed a 4473 w bg check,  to needing a C&R even though its an antique to pick it up.

The Bisley grip is the most comfortable grip for the Ruger single action, IMO. I've heard it manages recoil better than the standard grip, but I have only fired BP equivalent loads in mine so far.

I have the same gun in .45 Colt. The finish is more durable than my other replicas and the sights are wider and squared off. The only downside is the final finishing compared to my other Italian SAA's. The trigger needs some stoning to be as smooth as the others and the grips aren't finish fit. For the money, they are a huge deal, though. I love mine and shoot it mote than my others.

Nice Blackhawk!  What grips are those?  They are the first oversized grips I've seen that fit the standard shape grip frame (non-Bisley) and fill in the spot behind the triggerguard without messing up the visual balance of the gun.

If I recall, they are from Badger Custom Grips.  They are well made and comfortable when shooting 45LC, but I usually switch to the rubber Hogues when shooting 454.

Picked up this Ruger Blackhawk a couple of weeks ago.  I bought it from a store knowing that it had a problem in the hammer, called Ruger and sent it back for repair.  Ruger's customer service was awesome, they paid shipping both ways and had it back to me in 1 week.  To top it off them also included a set of grips for it.

For the longest time, your pair was the same SA revolvers I owned. I started with the SSS that I earned by painting houses all summer with my father when I was 10. I still shoot it every now and then, and it was the first gun my daughter ever fired.

Then, when I was younger, I felt "bigger is better" and picked up a Super Blackhawk. They are nice guns, but back then, I just couldn't understand shooting anything but max loads. Now, I've changed my attitude about that. In the past year, I doubt I've fired more than a box of magnum loads, but tens of thousands of .38 and .44 Specials have gone downrange.

If I got into the reduced loads for the .44, I might still own it today. It's long gone now, but others have taken its place.

Lots of cool pistols in this thread.     I was wanting to tell SoloDallas that you will be able to date your pistol by the serial number.

Would a frontier have a different serial number range, or same as SAA?

Gotta keep this topic active.

Here's my wife's new single action Cimarron .45 Colt Holy Smoker.
This Cimarron’s action is smooth as glass.  She is a much better shot than I am.  The first time she shot the Holy Smoker she had one head shot and five shots in the 10 ring.

I posted this is gd but haven't gotten any response.

I'm looking at getting my first single action revolver and need some advice.
I found a pair of uberti western arms .357 in polished stainless with walnut grips slightly used consecutive serial numbers 5.5 inch barrels. Bottom dollar is 920 shipped. Serial number starts with 742xx.

Can someone let me know if this is a decent deal? Need to decide today.

Thanks Bob,

took your suggestion and went forward. It appears to be a 1892 original. Pretty cool.

Bought another Uberti Replica yesterday, I'm hooked with these things. It's the one above, in both .45 and .45LC (two cylinders) for convenience of use (bullets you find bullets you shoot). On this one I really wanted to have the brass finishes on backstrap and trigger guard. Exactly as I had been wanting one since I was a few years old.
