Should've been done 20 years ago.

Glad they finally saw the light.

I wonder how long until they'll be available in meaningful quantities?

Not lovin' the narrowness of the forcing cone.

Yep,  have to get one.   Going to put the old style grips on it though.

I don't know much about that round. How's it compare to .357?

Sign me up, I have a 3" GP100 .357 that is fantastic. I wish Ruger would enlarge the cylinder window on the SP101 and chamber it in .44 Special so we could have a high quality Bulldog.

Got one ordered.  Hoping to see if shortly after Christmas.  Same goes for a Galco holster, some brass and a speed loader.

On a related note; how cool would a swelled up LCR be?  I'd love to see Ruger come out with a GP-100 sized gun in a polymer format.  Something like that would be an AWESOME Bulldog replacement.

Ruger has gone from being a company that only made guns Bill Ruger liked, to making guns no one knew they wanted, but now desperately need once they're in production.

In factory loads they really don't compare.  That's because much of the factory ammo is stuff like 246gr RNL meant for target and Cowboy Action.  But companies like Buffalo Bore and Underwood make some hotter stuff.  Underwood touts a 200gr Gold Dot at 1,100 FPS.

Handloaders have been hotrodding the Special for years.  That's what Elmer Keith did and it is what evolved into the 44 Magnum.

Where does one acquire .44 special in bulk?

I'm guessing people like reloading it.

If I was buying it, I'd get Black Hills cowboy loads. Fun to shoot, and they use Starline brass.

Not bad, but I'll stick with my S&W 69.

Mention of the S&W Model 69 makes a person wonder why the GP 100 is not also 44 Mag?  The cylinder are nearly identical is size why is the GP 100 only 44 Special?

I have been wondering the same thing and can only assume that a 44 Mag version is in the works. Maybe a 41 Mag version too.

I want one.
My only problem; the price.
It seems Ruger and S&W, are really pricing stainless revolvers high, the last decade.

Just picked it up. More info shortly.

Zero interest in a .44 special since all my .44 brass is magnum.  Such a shame Ruger did not make it in Magnum like the S&W 69.

Nice but seems wasteful. I would want it in 44 mag so I could shoot both.

>>makes a person wonder why the GP 100 is not also 44 Mag?<<

That's my question as well. I'm not sure why everyone's suddenly gone ga-ga over the .44 spl. ctg. that's been around for years, with only mediocre acceptance? Go figure....

I don't think it has mediocre acceptance but rather a small but dedicated fanbase who grew up reading stuff from Elmer Keith, Skeeter Skelton, etc. Same deal as the 41 Mag.

I guess Ruger’s thinking here was to produce a smaller lighter gun that would appeal to hikers and outdoorsman who don't want a bulky and heavy Redhawk. They already have a snubby 44Mag Redhawk so now they have both sides of the market covered.

Also I wonder how the GP would hold up. Custom 'smiths have been converting GP's to 44SPL for years. Wouldn't these guys already be offering a Mag if it is practical?
