I just bought an LCP, my 1st ever .380

Is XTP the best choice?
Are Hydra Shok, Gold Dots or Golden Sabre worth considering?
Are there any you guys prefer over these 4?

Anything yours doesn't like?

Thanks

A YouTube nerd says XTP. I believe him. Conclusion around 9:00 but if you watch gun/ammo vids for entertainment it may be interesting.

Just started shooting the Barnes all copper 80 grain .380 TAC-XPD ammo out of my Ruger LCP and so far it has been great. Functions excellent with no problems and looks to have great potential as a defensive round in the .380 acp. Nowadays you have to sift through all that is posted on-line and after shooting decide what might be the best for you. Then carry what YOU decide on.
The choices are numerous but all are better than nothing, some are better than others and each of us may come to a different conclusion based on our own biases ....<><....:)

Hornady XTP is considered the best .380 HP to my knowladge. I haven't ever seen it on shelves though and haven't ordered any, so my LCP is loaded with 1 round of Winchester PDX1 in the chamber and the magazine is full of FMJ.

I use Hornady Critical Defense in my LCP because that's the first hollowpoint I tried, it fed just fine, and I'm too cheap to try out several different brands.  Hollowpoints are freakin' expensive!

This, Fiocchi Extreama XTP 90gr

from what i have heard, this is about as good as it gets for .380.
They are loaded with Hornady XTP bullets but a little hotter.
If i cant find that i get the Hornady loaded rounds.

American Gunner XTP. I'd try Gold Dots and surprisingly Hydrashok does well in this caliber too. But XTPs are cheap, perform and feed well in all calibers IME. I reload my 9mm and .38 defensive loads using XTPs driven fast.

Santa Barbara 9mm Corto (Short) = .380 ACP.   Its Spanish military surplus bought 12yrs ago for $110/1000 shipped.

This stuff is higher pressure than any other .380 Ive shot. I dont want to beat up my LCP so I'm planning on ordering some
extra power recoil springs from Wolff Springs.

I used to carry ball until I saw pretty extensive testing by a youtuber (shooting the bull, maybe?).  Bottom line, Fiochi and Hydrashok (surprisingly) took first and second. They expand some and penetrate enough.

Winchester Silvertips.  Not the most fashionable choice now days, but I had several boxes and they're accurate from my LCP.

Speer GD because that's what I use in my other .380s and it functions in everything I've tried it in.  With the .380, the best mantra is probably along the lines of anything worth shooting is worth shooting multiple times.

Ruger specifies (twice in two paragraphs) that the gun is not to be used with +P/hot loads; a look at the barrel thickness should make it apparent that it is a bad idea.  From page eleven of the LCP owner's manual:

AMMUNITION
The RUGER® LCP® pistols are chambered for the 380 Auto cartridge. Do not attempt to load any other cartridges into the magazine or chamber of the pistol. Do not use “+P” ammunition.

The RUGER® LCP® pistols are compatible with standard factory ammunition loaded to U.S. Industry Standards, including hollow-point loads loaded in brass or aluminum cases. No 380 Auto ammunition manufactured in accordance with NATO, U.S., SAAMI, or CIP standards is known to be beyond the design limits or known not to function in these pistols.
Do not use “+P” ammunition.

AMMUNITION (CARTRIDGES) NOTICE WE SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE OR INJURY WHATSOEVER OCCURRING IN CONNECTION WITH, OR AS A RESULT OF, THE USE IN RUGER FIREARMS OF FAULTY, OR NON-STANDARD, OR “RE-MANUFACTURED”, OR HAND-LOADED (RELOADED) AMMUNITION, OR OF CARTRIDGES OTHER THAN THOSE FOR WHICH THE FIREARM WAS ORIGINALLY CHAMBERED.
