I've been looking at Ruger MK pistols for over 30 years and finally picked one up this weekend.
I've put 100 rounds through it so far, but have a question.
With every other gun I own, I can insert a new magazine, then just hit the slide lock and a round chambers.
With my new MKIII Target, I find about 2/3 of the time, if I just hit the slide lock, there is not enough momentum, and the round hits the top of the chamber, deforming it, and it subsequently does not chamber more than 1/2 way.
If I follow the instructions, and pull the bolt back, then let it go forward, it has enough momentum to chamber 100% of the time.
My question is- can I expect this for the life of the pistol- that I can't just hit the slide lock and have a round chamber? The instructions state to pull the bolt back, but I'm used to every other gun I own chambering a round if I just hit the slide lock.
