when did Ruger switch to the satin stainless? did they ever make any in stainless steel?

I know the current models all seem to have a dull grey look to them

They did make a Stainless. I am not sure what years. I have one sitting in the safe, I'll look when i get home.

They are still stainless, just tumbled instead of polished. I think the tumbled was introduced when the 460 first came out.

Not sure what OP is exactly asking, but all Super Redhawk models are made of stainless steel. Most have had a dull brushed satin surface, like the GP100 and SP101.  Some models (none currently) had a darker Target Grey surface treatment that was prduced by tumbling in a special media.
