I'd been out of the big boy revolvers for a while since I traded off my old 629, due to my gut feeling that I was wearing the thing out...

I found a sweet deal (on gbroker, really) on a blued 5.5 inch Redhawk. This thing is going to be my go to woods gun. I can't wait. I've got my simply rugged holster on order and I'll be ready to defend against large anything, or cinderblocks.

Do those Pachmyrs still have the ill fitting seam down the front of the finger grooves? I'm thinking about getting them over the Hogues for the rubber over the backstrap. Last time I felt some pachs, it was all soft like the gun was swimming around in the grip.

The Redhawk is an awesome gun, Congrats!  While I don't own one I do have a 629.  Here's the gun I got instead of the .44 mag Redhawk...

S&W 629 V-Comp Performance Center .44 magnum.  It's not a Ruger but all my other revolvers are and they get along great!

Used and abused .41 Mag I bought new back in 1986, every ding, dent and scratch was put there by yours truly. Love this gun!

I got a bargain on this creampuff, can't tell she's ever been fired but that is soon to be remedied...

And the best holster currently made for a beast like this in my opinion: Simply Rugged.

I love this thing.. Uncle Mikes grips work like a charm.  Paid $425 OTD for it a few years back.  It'll never be sold.

I bought this .41 Mag in 1982 from a gun shop in Tustin, CA. That 15-day wait was a bitch.

It's been a regular companion on hog hunts and as an "Oh Shit! There's a bear between me and my rifle!" gun when I was living and working in Alaska.

I had a blue Redhawk years ago that was a fantastic shooter, unfortunately I let a hunting buddy talk me out of it and he refuses to sell it back.

But I just picked up another one, with a nice set of Hogue wood grips.

Those are some really nice revolvers! I love my 629 V-Comp and wouldn't trade it for anything but I'll definitely be adding a Redhawk to my collection some day.  If they ever come out with a full lug, smooth cylinder, 4 or 5" stainless model I'll buy it so fast I'll be shooting it at the range before the cash register drawer closes.

I cut my 454 Casull 7.5" Super Redhawk down to 5".  I am going to bead blast all the rest of the Target Gray finish off since I'm not a huge fan of it anyways.  You can see where the finish was affected in the barrel shortening.

Nice work, Ruger should hire you to make grips.

I really like the grips. im on my second 5.5"  44 mag and my one complaint is the grips are two diff colors even after re staining with a really dark stain. ooo well I got mine for woods carry so it shows with scratches from the unlined leather holster and brush rubbing against it from hiking and dragging fire woods. got my first one in 2005 for 400$ but it had the short firing pin that plagued then at one point if the gun wasn't cleaned well it would cause really light primer strikes so I sold it not needing a 44 mag. so when I started staying in bear country it took me forever to find one again. found one at a gun show that was mint for 575$ walked around the tables and came back to it and some kid had slid it all over the table when the seller wasn't looking and scratched the hell out of it so I got it for 475$ and polished it till it was scratch free and gave up on polishing after all the leather wear on it lol.

Have you purchased your Redhawk yet?  Either way, great choice.

May I ask what it cost.  I have one I am considering selling along with a Smith 629 and purchasing a Ruger Alaska. Consolidating inventory.
