What's the deal w/ the different extractors? Is one better than the other? I've read people don't like the external, and it seems like every pic is of an internal. Am I the only one here with an external extractor? Bought the Stainless TLE II 5-6 years ago and haven't had any problems with it. Saw some talk about Kimber swapping out the slides, any truth to that?

Think they swapped some in the beginning but haven't heard much about it lately. I have the Kimber Tactical Pro II with external extractor. Several thousand rounds through it and the extractor has never been an issue. Guess I got one of the good ones.

I wouldn't get my hopes up for a slide swap this late in the game, but ya never know.

My Series 2 has never given me any extraction troubles, but I do wish I could find a nice or better replacement part to have on hand. All I've found so far is the Kimber replacement.

What are people's issue with the external extractor? I've never had any problems either, just wondering what the rationale is to request Kimber to swap them out.

Poor design plagued with problems. That you've not experienced problems with yours is the exception not the rule.

On average does the external extractor automatically lower the value vs same model w/ internal?

Yes they have a lower value.

Understood. Is it correct that the chances of Kimber replacing it just because it is an external are slim to none? Being that I have not had problems I really don't know any other reasoning for the request other than the two you have stated: poor design/lowers value.

It's been my experience that many external extractors that originally showed no problems begin to develop failure to extract issues after 2-3,000 rounds.

Two years ago a friend that had an external extractor CDP finally started having Failure to extract issues and Kimber ended up replacing the entire firearm.

Your best bet is to contact Kimber.

The tip sheared off of my external extractor on my Eclipse, called Kimber CS and they sent me a new extractor, but it was the wrong size. Called them back told them what was up and they gave me a RMA#.

3 or so weeks later I got back a new internal extractor slide, and new night sites. This was about 6 or so months ago.

Seems they only have the last revision EE now, and mine was one of the earlier versions. Only paid shipping to them, but they took care of me for a pistol long past warranty.

Either way my eclipse shot well with the EE before it broke, and it shoots just as well with the new internal extractor.

After reading about some of the concerns about the extractors I called to see if I could order a spare for my tactical custom. got to speak to someone immediately and he is sending a few out to me today for free.
I really didnt expect the answer I got after reading about some of the complaints on this site.
